Instead of bothering to wait in line for the newest WoW patch, I decided to go through some of my old archive CDs. You know what I mean, right? Those CDs of random things that you burn, so you don't lose it, but you invariably forget about what's on it, and stumble upon it years later, amazed at what is on it, and horrified at some of the things that you felt necessary to save.
I did that today. I found some Two-Mix (great JPop band) on one CD, and that began my quest proper. I found WAV files of the theme to the Mysterious Cities of Gold, in both English and French. (I miss that show sometimes. That was one of the best shows I watched when I was little.) I stumbled upon some Quicktime movies of various 80's cartoon intros, including G.I.Joe, Transformers, and Jem. Of course, I also had Silverhawks, Orbots, MASK, and Inhumanoids.
Right now, I'm copying some anime music back to my computer, for possibly the first time this year. I never thought I'd feel a generation gap in anime, but it's there. I was waxing nostalgic about the shows I liked, and realized that the quality of anime nowadays is nowhere near what it was even ten years ago. Sure, the technical aspects of the shows are better, but back "in my day", you could tell the difference between the characters in Ranma and Kimagure Orange Road. There was no mistaking who the girl with long blonde hair and odangos was (not that there is now, either). You knew who Lum was. I mentally began making a list of my favorite anime shows, and I was amazed at how much BETTER they are to me, than the chaff that resides on Best Buy's shelves:
Wow, I'm hostile about this. :) I better just take some Geritol, and shut up, before one of you whipper-snappers kicks my ass. :)
Well, I guess I'm going to download the WoW patch now, maybe, and get that installed. I also need to get some more mp3s copied to my drive. (Actually, as truly insane as it sounds, I am thinking about deleting every single mp3 off my computer, and copying over from scratch. That is a project for an uninterrupted Saturday, though.)
Oh, and in parting...
Ito-oshi Hito No Tameni is one of the best theme songs ever, right behind the song that's playing now. Now, get me my walker, my prunes, and my VCR (for which I still have a hefty anime collection on VHS).

- Rurouni Kenshin
- Kimagure Orange Road
- Ranma Nibun No Ichi
- Bubblegum Crisis (none of that 2040 crap, mind you!)
- Aa Megami-sama! (aka Ah! My Goddess)
- Project A-Ko (the first, mainly, though all were pretty good)
- Sailor Moon (yeah, I loved it. Kiss my ass. :) )
- Fushigi Yuugi (except for that blasted "Miaka!" "Tamahome!" crap. )
- Magic Knight Rayearth
- Urusei Yatsura
- Tenchi Muyo (the first OVA series, subtitled, released by Pioneer. Don't talk to me about the TV show.)
- the one-shots (A Wind Named Amnesia, Akira, Barefoot Gen, Mononoke Hime, Dagger of Kamui)
