It really was. I went into work, and things progressed smoothly. That is, until our 10am checker called in. Given how tight things are at my store, this meant that we had been hamstrung. Crap. I finished my End of Day work, and got everything put out. I then called around to find a replacement. Unlike
rockcandy76, no one let themselves get called in. Heck, the main person I thought about getting to come in early apparently is going to be fired today for something on her background. Sheesh.
So, the morning was rough, but not unmanageable. I thought that we were doing quite well, considering, and was in a positive mood when I left for lunch, even though it was an hour late. I ate at Lenny's, and felt pretty good when I came back.
Coming back was my mistake. Apparently, the schedule had not been finished from the other day when I couldn't get it done, even after working an hour of overtime. I only left it that day simply because my Co-Manager said that he'd take a look at it, because I hadn't scheduled efficiently. I wasn't offended by this; indeed, I rarely work on the schedule, so I assumed that I was missing something obvious. Well, today, I learned that he never touched it. Granted, inventory was Thursday, and he'd been there since Wednesday, but if he wasn't going to work on it, wouldn't it have made more sense for me to stay and finish it up?
So, my last two hours were spent trying to get the schedule down to what he wants it to be for the week. I started getting frustrated, and then decided that I would do some math, assuming minimum coverage (which is basically what he wants). You know what I found? That he was asking for about 30 hours LESS than we can do AS A BARE MINIMUM and maintain any kind of Customer Service level. Needless to say, I was unhappy. I fixed what I could, stretched, pulled, and finagled the schedule until it was within 40 hours of where he wanted it (or 10 hours above minimum service level). I stopped, and Joyce (who had come in) said to run it. I asked if we were going to run it by him, and she said no. Hehe.. I love her backbone sometimes.
So, I came home, and built a spreadsheet to calculate hours based on a minimum service level. I'm thinking of asking him to punch in what he wants, when, and seeing how many hours he comes up to. I can appreciate the powers that be needing to cut hours, but this is getting downright ridiculous.
Tomorrow, I'm doing my usual, in that I'm gonna do the End of Week, then Payroll, and finish it up with the Zone Reports. I love Sundays, simply because I can sit, use my brain, and not deal with customers. After work, I have my D&D game, and I hope that things go a little more smoothly than last week. If not, then I'll filet the lot of 'em. I haven't gone postal yet this year. *tick* *tick* *tick*
