I was thinking tonight, about how Ashe and Aric would fit into Eberron. After all, it's a great setting, and what could be more fun that fitting in two of my favorite characters of all time?
Things would be REALLY different.. (Unless you're unimaginative, and just plop the character into the world, without respect for the character's backstory.)
Aric:
When he was young, Aric was tormented by Dimitru, a madman from another "reality" who killed his uncle, and ruined his young life. In the Forgotten Realms, Aric dedicated himself to the service of Ilmater as a paladin. Of course, later he wound up in Caeln, and all kinds of bad mojo went down, but that's not important at the moment. The thing to think about is the phrase "madman from another 'reality.'" Chances are good that Aric, after his experience with Dimitru, would have wound up seeking out the Gatekeeper Druid sect in the Eldeen Reaches, and learning how to combat the aberrations, daelkyr and other denizens of the plane Xoriat. Naturally, the plane of madness would be the locale from which Dimitru would have hailed, at least as Aric believed.
From LG Human Paladin of Ilmater to NG Human Druid of the Gatekeeper Sect.... wow.
(Paladin8 becomes Druid8)
Ashe:
Ashe grew up in the woods around Shadowdale, learning woodlore from his parents. If he was in Eberron, then his father would have been called off to fight in the Last War. His father would probably have died in the war, and his mother - most likely a shifter - would have raised him herself. Therefore, chances are very good that Ashe would have learned more of the spiritual side of woodlore - and his heritage - from his mother.. Yet, he wouldn't have been as dedicated with his bow, since he would have some spent some time getting druidic training with the Wardens of the Wood.
From NG Human Fighter/Ranger of Mielikki to CG Shifter Ranger/Druid of the Wardens of the Wood sect.
(Fighter6/Ranger2 becomes Ranger4/Druid3/Eldeen Ranger1)
AND DOING A THIRD ONE JUST BECAUSE:
Chance:
Chance learned early on that luck was what you made of it, and worshipped both the good and evil goddess of luck. Later, he had his reality checked by Mielikki, and now follows her teachings as well. In Eberron, Chance would probably have fostered his abilities for subterfuge, and honed his luck to a true weapon.
From NG Human Rogue/Ranger of Mielikki to CG Human Rogue/Ranger/Extreme Explorer.
(Ranger4/Rogue4 becomes Ranger4/Rogue1/Extreme Explorer3)
Interesting, I think, how these characters differ from their "Forgotten Realms" counterparts. Odd that I never thought of how Eberron would affect them until tonight. Neat. :)
