I was thinking tonight, about how Ashe and Aric would fit into Eberron. After all, it's a great setting, and what could be more fun that fitting in two of my favorite characters of all time?

Things would be REALLY different.. (Unless you're unimaginative, and just plop the character into the world, without respect for the character's backstory.)

Aric:

When he was young, Aric was tormented by Dimitru, a madman from another "reality" who killed his uncle, and ruined his young life. In the Forgotten Realms, Aric dedicated himself to the service of Ilmater as a paladin. Of course, later he wound up in Caeln, and all kinds of bad mojo went down, but that's not important at the moment. The thing to think about is the phrase "madman from another 'reality.'" Chances are good that Aric, after his experience with Dimitru, would have wound up seeking out the Gatekeeper Druid sect in the Eldeen Reaches, and learning how to combat the aberrations, daelkyr and other denizens of the plane Xoriat. Naturally, the plane of madness would be the locale from which Dimitru would have hailed, at least as Aric believed.

From LG Human Paladin of Ilmater to NG Human Druid of the Gatekeeper Sect.... wow.
(Paladin8 becomes Druid8)

Ashe:

Ashe grew up in the woods around Shadowdale, learning woodlore from his parents. If he was in Eberron, then his father would have been called off to fight in the Last War. His father would probably have died in the war, and his mother - most likely a shifter - would have raised him herself. Therefore, chances are very good that Ashe would have learned more of the spiritual side of woodlore - and his heritage - from his mother.. Yet, he wouldn't have been as dedicated with his bow, since he would have some spent some time getting druidic training with the Wardens of the Wood.

From NG Human Fighter/Ranger of Mielikki to CG Shifter Ranger/Druid of the Wardens of the Wood sect.
(Fighter6/Ranger2 becomes Ranger4/Druid3/Eldeen Ranger1)

AND DOING A THIRD ONE JUST BECAUSE:
Chance:

Chance learned early on that luck was what you made of it, and worshipped both the good and evil goddess of luck. Later, he had his reality checked by Mielikki, and now follows her teachings as well. In Eberron, Chance would probably have fostered his abilities for subterfuge, and honed his luck to a true weapon.

From NG Human Rogue/Ranger of Mielikki to CG Human Rogue/Ranger/Extreme Explorer.
(Ranger4/Rogue4 becomes Ranger4/Rogue1/Extreme Explorer3)

Interesting, I think, how these characters differ from their "Forgotten Realms" counterparts. Odd that I never thought of how Eberron would affect them until tonight. Neat. :)

Well, it's noon, and I'm still at home. I have quite a full plate today, yet I haven't rushed off to begin taking care of it. In fact, I have taken it easy this morning, and am only now about to leave.

First of all, I had breakfast, and ate less than I normally do. It's not that I wasn't as hungry, but that I was full faster. Know what I mean? I was tickled by it. Then, I came in here, and read the many responses my post before last has gotten (including 4 from [livejournal.com profile] standing_dragon himself!). All of your responses are great, and I will reply to them, but I should be responsible first today.

For you see, I'm leaving here, dropping off two huge miniatures at Comic Cellar for another patron*, and then going to my store. I'm gonna talk to the folks at the bank there, and find out EXACTLY how much I owe on my car. I know it's $971 and change, but it's the bloody change I need to know. Perhaps I'll call them instead.

Anyway, when I have my total, I'm going to my bank, and having them cut me a check for that amount. I will then head, with all speed, to my store, and pay the bank its final car note payment, thus freeing me from the burden of debt. Yay! By this time, I imagine that it will be around 2pm or so, so I'll go back by Comic Cellar to buy my weekly stuff (which is hopefully nonexistent, since I'd rather get one pack of minis than a couple of new manga), and pick up the minis the guy left for me.

This afternoon, I'm going to head over to Charles' place, and hang out a bit. Not sure if I'll get into it before I go to his place or not, but at some point, I plan to top off the fluids in MY car, and give it another once-over to fully clean it out. (I cleaned it pretty well last Thursday night, before I took Charles and Melissa to the oral surgeon.)

So, I have a full day ahead of me, and while I'm dreading having to do all of that running around, at least it's considerably productive, right?

* - I'm trading a Huge Gold Dragon and a Bulette for a Glabrezu and a Fomorian Giant. Sweet. Now, to find the ever-elusive Huge Red Dragon. *sigh*

Get this: I have no more payment coupons. Back in 2000-2001, I used a "skip-a-payment" option three times. Now, if you had no more coupons, wouldn't you assume that you owed the balance? I did. Well, I called to get my balance: $971.54. Then, since it was mentioned in the menu, I selected "Loan Payoff Amount." It, however, was $1000.44!!

Why the difference? Well, even though they didn't tell me (or I don't remember) how the skip-a-payment worked, I assumed that it'd be added. In reality, though, it added 3 payments to the end of my loan. My loan isn't up until October. If I pay before then, I suffer a "penalty" for getting out of debt that much sooner.

So, what does this mean? It means that I'm not going to pay it off today. It also means that on Monday, I will pay my July payment, and nothing more. Finally, it means that I'm going to put back the remaining two payments worth into savinsgs, and pay them as they come due. Of course, should I change my mind between then and now, I'll more than happily pay it off. Unfortunately, a payoff of $1000 cuts me a little closer than I'm comfortable with. (Yeah, $30 is just that critical. I'm actually glad I don't have to pay it yet.)

So, I'm disappointed that my car isn't being paid off. Yet, I'm not going to give them the satisfaction of an extra $30 just because. (I'll give some deeper thought to this later on, too. I might just pay July, and then dump a bunch of the remaining money into "Principal Payment", which will reduce what the loan can charge me instead.)

Anyway, now that that's cleared, I'm going to Comic Cellar to fulfill an obligation. Later, peeps..

EDIT: I talked to Charles, and he believes that I should go ahead and pay it. He is so convinced of this course of action, that he's willing to loan me the $30 until payday, so that I'll go through with it. Therefore, after this storm moves through, I'm going to go pay it off anyway. I'll wait to borrow that money until I have no other choice, though. (Comic Cellar has nothing for me, and I'm going to skip getting anything this week anyway, so that's a moot issue. Food and gas for the week is my only concern now.)

My car is now mine, pending my receipt of the title. Yay!

Today has been a busy day for me, as I foresaw. Interestingly, things didn't happen the way I outlined earlier. I called NBC for my payoff amount, and asked if a regular check would work. Since I got the total and the accepted payment methods before I left, I didn't have to drive across town. Instead, I wrote out my check, and went to the NBC bank by Comic Cellar (in the same parking lot) to pay off my loan.

Then, I went to Comic Cellar, and dropped off the minis. I bought one new booster, and received a treant for my troubles. The cool thing was that I got a blue slaad. Neatness. Later this afternoon, I went to Charles', and had dinner with him and Melissa. Kim showed up, but I had to go, since it was nearly 8pm. (I had to get home in time to get some rest, dang it.) I talked with [livejournal.com profile] andric online, and I'm gonna get a couple of SeraMyu CDs off of her (8 & 9! Miyuki rules!) in a couple of weeks. Bonus! I love me my SeraMyus! (*tips hat to [livejournal.com profile] mariavu for showing 'em to me in the first place*)

Also, I received the D&D minis tiles in the mail that I won on eBay. Combined with the set I got out of my own starter set, I now own SIX complete sets of tiles. Therefore, I'll have no trouble recreating the dungeons in the Eberron adventure that's in Dungeon on Sunday. I've already made several of the rooms for fun, and they look bloody cool. I can't wait.

Oh, and someone please remind me when I need it: I should NEVER, NEVER, NEVER try to plan extracurricular activities when I've had a busy, stressful day. I take everything the wrong way, freak out, and bring MYSELF lots of headache and stress.

Now, I'm going to bed, because I have to work 6a-3p tomorrow, and who knows what's going to happen when I get home. In closing, is it natural to be panicky about one's car when one has just paid it off? I mean, abnormally worried that it's okay?
