Well, as I may or may not have mentioned, last night we went to Scott's, supposedly to play some Magic and to create some characters for the d20 Modern game that
mfsfreak is going to be running on Fridays. Yes, boys and girls, we're actually going to have a game to play on Friday. I may play this in addition to the Monday game that
nyminal is going to be doing and the Sunday game that Mike and I are running.
The game has got a neat concept. Since it's modern, we are all going to start off as regular people, doing regular jobs. However, things will begin to happen. Yep, it's a Shadow Slayers game. For the uninitiated, that means it's like Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. The thing that struck me as odd, though, was Alex's reluctance to set it in a real city in Tennessee. Oh man, we were a mere second away from setting it in Chattanooga. He wanted to make a town up, and I couldn't get over the fact that "it's modern, why not take advantage of the plethora of city maps and such available?" I think we settled on the town in which Murray State resides. Not that I can think of it, so we might as well have made it up.
I'm going to be playing a professor at the school. Marco Quillan is the professor of history and archaeology at the university. He's fluent in about six languages, and knows how to read Hieroglyphics, Sumerian, and Ancient Babylonian (I think). He's got a passport, and has travelled the world, as evidenced by the stack of maps he's got. (At least 15!) He's great with computers, and can research - or hack - with the best of them. Sadly, I don't know if I'm going to be able to play him.
Our GM told us what kind of setting we were going to be in originally. (College town) I made my character appropriately. What did the rest make?
makeshift_guru made a college student. Okay, no problems there. Tom made a pornographer. No, really. However, I suppose that the concept could work. Scott made... a cop. Sounds normal, right? Nope. This cop keeps a sniper rifle in the trunk of his car, keeps a machete next to it, has 20 throwing stars, and almost got a whip. Yeah, and the bloody character is named Strieson. Why? I got my character's name out of the phone book. (Of course, I grabbed two different names and put them together, but I at least acknowledged that it's modern day.) Scott then mentioned something about "looting bodies". I looked at him, and said, "No, you won't. Crime Scene will have to show up, and cops will be swarming everywhere if someone dies." Dang it, I know I'm being a wet blanket, but what's the point of playing d20 Modern if you're going to ignore the underlying setting: the world as it is today?
As you might have guessed, we never played Magic, but I got my cards sorted back out. I had gotten them kinda messy making all of those decks.
In other news, I'm going up to Comic Cellar today. I have 8 decks to play against
jartravian. I had a burst of deck-building. Most of the ones I had are tweaked, too. I know that I want to come up with at least 2 more decks. I have yet to use Blue in any of the decks, and Blue is a fun color. I also want to make a mono-red beatdown deck. I loved Sligh back in the day. Now, there are more goblins than before. :) I'll come up with something.
Finally, I was going to do my laundry today, but wow, it FEELS like it's going to rain. *sigh* I guess I'll do enough laundry to hold me over until tomorrow, then start a load properly.
Vacation Countdown: 148 hours.. (It begins when I get off work next Friday at 2pm. Woe to the sucker who tries to keep me over that day.)
