I overslept this morning. I hate when I do that. I got to work, and I managed to get things done relatively on time (I was a little late, but oh well.) Work went by fairly well after that, and I got home, tired but ready to relax. I started reading everyone's LiveJournal entries today. (
wicked_wish, I would say that the Celine Dion track takes the cake in my book, too.)
That's when it happened. I had stepped away from my computer for a few moments to take care of something that needed my attention, and my brother wanted to do a quiz that was the current entry. Only, when he reached for the mouse, he hit my cup of tea sitting on my desk. I came back to him holding a shirt, wearing an unhappy look, and telling me that he "spilled tea all over the keyboard". I took it remarkably in stride. I clearned it up. Took the bugger completely apart, and made sure no tea remained. The innards didn't take any damage, so everything should have been fine. Yeah, Murphy raised his ugly head. The space bar wasn't working. It seems I had lost one of the two springs that were needed for proper operation. To add to this, Trillian started crashing repeatedly. I couldn't figure out what was going wrong, ever after reinstalling I decided it could wait until I got a better keyboard.
We went driving around, looking at various places, both for an air mattress for my brother, and a keyboard for me. (Why is it that Microsoft's keyboards have to become uglier each time? Has anyone seen an MS Multimedia keyboard? *shudder*) I finally found one, and my brother got his mattress, and we headed home. I also snagged some compressed air. Whew! My computer NEEDED that! Good thing I got it.
I got things set up again. Trillian was reinstalled, and my new keyboard was hooked up. Guess what happens? Yep, Trillian pops up with a message saying that an update is available, and it resolves the issues I was having. Sheesh. Coulda told me earlier, peoples. :)
I've replied to my comments, read everyone's LJs, and I'm finishing my post. All in all, a good day. However, I am BEAT.
Oh, and I finished Neil Gaiman's Coraline today. I almost read it entirely during lunch. Great book. Spooky, but properly so. Not that it compares to
wicked_wish's Four and Twenty Blackbirds, mind you. I love Gaiman, but this is a children's book, and Ms Cherie has spooky very finely crafted in her tome. If you haven't read it, what are you waiting for?
I've now moved on to Kristen Britain's Green Rider. She appears to be some kind of protegee of Terry Goodkind, since she thanks him in the acknowledgements page. I've only gotten 4 pages in, but it's already interesting. This world feels old, and I already get a sense of history about the place. I know I said I'd start back up the Ian Irvine novels, but I don't want to lose my momentum, and I had hit a slow place in those books. Thinking about it, I think I will finish the Irvine novels first. I am finding the desire to finish the story, so that I may have closure. (They really ARE great novels, though. It's just timing, and Robert Jordan's fault. I wouldn't have quit if not for Crossroads of Twilight. The other problem is that they ARE in a slow spot. I'll keep reading. :) )
I'm rambling now, so I think I'll call it a day.
