Yesterday's session was a lot of fun, even if I started to get tired toward the end. I should remember that even if you sleep till 8am, and had it easy all day, by 10pm you've still been up for 14 hours. :)

Things got wild, and we almost saw a role-play inspired PvP erupt twice. Both times, it was the fighter/rogue trying to become a vampire. First, he butted heads with my paladin, and the second time, he crossed words with our ranger (who is in the service of the ultimate god of chaos). Things were kinda tense, but it was neat in a way, because it wasn't something that each player did. It was our characters that did it. *shrug* At any rate, nothing came of it, though I am certainly going to be wary of him in the future.

We got our "share" of the brae coins that were retrieved, and I improved my armor to a +3, got a Ring of Protection +1, enchanted my amulet to give me +1 natural armor, and added "Keen" to my +1 Holy bastard sword. :)

Big fight at the end, and I took a hefty chunk of damage. I think the fact that I had *NEVER* taken so much damage in one fight before probably had me kinda moody. Things weren't helped when, for the first time since the campaign started, my dice totally betrayed me when it mattered most. I must have a talk with them. In fact, I need to choose a set of dice to use with my magister, since I like to use different sets for different characters. (See, it gives me an excuse to get new dice. Ha!)

Coming home, I ate dinner, and played a little GT: Vice City when my Internet connection died for probably the 15th-20th time this weekend. That was beginning to be a habit, and one I am not likely to take calmly. I am addicted to what I do on line, and woe betide the fool who tries to interrupt me. It was down long enough last night that I actually shut my computer down. That's highly unusual for me, and the silence almost got to me. (You'd be surprised, even if they're quiet, how much noise a computer fan will add to a room that has no other sounds.)

I feel asleep shortly after midnight, but woke up at 5am. For some reason, a thought popped in my head to check on things outside, and see what conditions were like in the sky. I haven't done much gazing since the beginning of October. It's not intentional, but rain and especially clouds kept me from viewing. It also doesn't help that I am really anxious to observe the stuff I see in the morning, such as Jupiter, Saturn, and the constellation of Orion.

This morning, I did just that. Taking the reflector telescope outside, I set up shop in the dark by my carport, and found Saturn. Unfortunately, since it's just a 16x scope with the lens it has, I saw no rings. I didn't expect to, either, though. (For the record, every book I've seen that talks about observing Saturn mentions that even a modest telescope will show the rings. It may not be as spectacular as the Hubble images and all, but rings you've found yourself are just that. :) ) I then got to see the Orion Nebula in Orion's sword. That was fun, even if I didn't have enough magnification to REALLY zoom in.

I walked out to the street, and looked over my house. There, just above the tress, was Jupiter. I suddenly had a thought that involved the refracter I had left inside. I hurried inside, grabbed it, put some new screws in one of the mounts that hold it (the thing is old, and the old screws don't hold like they used to), and went back outside. By now, the sun was starting to rise, and I could only see Sirius, Saturn getting covered by a few clouds, and Jupiter. I trained the scope onto Jupiter, praying that I'd find it.

And I did! The nicest treat was, not only did I see Jupiter, I could faintly make out the cloud belts, AND the Galilean moons: Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. Sweetnessw!!! I zoomed in, and got a good view of them all.

By the time I was done with Jupiter, I tried to find Saturn, though I knew it was a lost cause, because the sky was already blue in the extreme east. There really wasn't any black left. I tried for about five-ten minutes, and finally gave up. Still, it was invigorating.

Coming inside, I finished reading Chris Bunch's Storm of Wings. This is an import book from Orbit, a UK publisher. This book was awesome. It told the story, plain and simple. No pages-long descriptions of various clothing, or anything else vaguely Jordan-esque. There was enough detail to give you a clear picture, though. The story moved at a very nice pace, highlighting the important events needed to tell the story of Hal Kailas, a youth who loved dragons, and wanted to ride them. On a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 9. It's one of those books that I could happily reread. The last book I enjoyed like this was Hero in the Shadows, by David Gemmell.

I'm going to Borders today, to see about picking up some D&D miniatures, since they apparently have some. While I'm there, I'm going to look for book two in the trilogy, Knighthood of the Dragon.

Anyway, I've got a background to write.

very cool, my friend. :)

yeah, you took some serious damage. And, in addition, Kierst almost got slaughtered. *whew*

Dude, that astronomy stuff you do is the coolest. I want to get into that so bad. :D

Yeah.. If I hadn't been so tired by then, I'd probably have remembered that Kierst almost got his butt handed to him. Very fun. *thumbs up*

Dude, whenever you wanna hang out after dark, I'll gladly tote by telescopes out, and we can do some observing. Unless it's cloudy, I'd never pass up an opportunity to do some stargazing. You just need to tell me, and I'm there. :)
