Why is your bed more comfortable when you have to get up for work, than when you have all morning to sleep?

Feel free to skip this if D&D holds no interest for you.

In [livejournal.com profile] lordreaibn's game, my character was a young thug who was quite abruptly converted to the worship of a good god (personally, I've always kind of felt that Delá's temperment matched those of the Christian god, which makes sense if you know [livejournal.com profile] lordreaibn). Obviously, he was doing the thug things under duress anyway, but seeing a god face-to-face can alter your moral values drastically. After making his choice, something happened to convince him that he'd lost everyone in the world for which he cared. Committing himself to the worship of this god, he left the city he'd always known, heading for a destination he knew not, but yet one to which his god was subtly guiding him.

His only possessions? A quarterstaff, a white leather breastplate (D&D: Leather Armor), a tabard representing his god, and a holy symbol.

At this point, he is level 2, and is a Rogue1/Cleric1.

My dilemma is that, while I really like this, I have begun playing a cleric on Sundays, and playing two group healers could get kind of old really quickly. So, since I see the Sunday Cleric (Beren) going to level 20 as a cleric of Pelor, I wanted to take Tedros on a different path. I'd already decided that Tedros would only use a quarterstaff to fight, due to the events that led to his conversion, and also as a sign of repentance.

To that end, I thought about making the character a Rogue1/Cleric8/Ranger11*. This would give him moderately powerful spellcasting (4th level cleric spells), a focus on hunting down evil (Ranger's favored enemies), and the abiility to do some real damage with his quarterstaff (Two-weapon Combat Style, all the way through "Combat Style Mastery" at ranger 11). The rogue level is there for flavor, to represent what he was, and will not change. I like the cleric aspect, but I could change it to paladin if the argument is sound. As for ranger, I could just as easily swap that out for monk, since the quarterstaff would be legal for the monk's flurry of blows. In which case, I could theoretically be a Rogue1/Paladin8/Monk11, or a Rogue1/Cleric8/Monk11.

To get a fuller idea of what I want for this character, feel free to read his background, found here.

Any suggestions/tips/constructive criticisms would be greatly appreciated. (Remember, for this, multiclassing penalties regarding keeping levels even are nonexistent and most multiclassing restrictions (paladin, monk) are also nonexistent.) Heck, if you think of a way to make him work as a group healer while still being different, please speak up! Remember, the level of Rogue is non-negotiable, though. :)

Thanks in advance. :)

* - The multiclassing penalties are nonexistent in this game, and frankly, I say good riddance!
