Because someone turned comments off on their LJ, I'm gonna reply in mine. No names will be used, and the entry on that person is locked, so you'll never know. Ironically, I might not have said much had comments not been disabled. :-p
Iran issues military warning to United States
Admittedly, I don't care for their tone, either, but they're referring to US invading them, or attempting to, at least. Whether we believe it's for the best is technically irrelevant. They are a sovereign nation, and for us to invade there (like we did Iraq) is no better than Germany invading Poland. Hitler was trying to expand his Third Reich, true, but we're trying to force everyone to play by our rules (deocratic republic).
First they continuously threaten to wipe Israel off the mapand I have no doubt they'll give it a go. Now they're threatening us. Iran's /dangerous/. They're going nuclear and their president isunstable as is their economic status. Not a good breeding ground forcountry stability.
I'm sure they'd be willing to give a go at taking down Israel, too. The thing is, though, that should they *try*, then, like when Saddam invaded Kuwait, the world -- led by the U.S.A. probably -- would be over there, kicking ass and taking names. As a union of nations, we would have said, "You can't do this." No matter how great we all think our country is to live in -- and it damn sure is -- that doesn't give us the right to tell people how to live their lives. I also read in USA Today that it could take Iran years to get enough centrifuges going to be able to produce a nuclear weapon (while I'll concede I may have the details incorrect there, the gist is the same -- Iran is years from such a weapon).
We can't just go back to sleep and wait for Iran to act.
No one said we should go back to sleep, but that doesn't mean we have to start the fight.
We've already forgotten that these Islamofascists want usdead, they've already made numerous strikes on us. (USS Cole, WTCtwice, to name three offhand.)
Last I checked, Osama bin Laden was responsible for those. Iran may have helped (indirectly, or shit would have long since hit the fan), but bin Laden and his organization are the ones proven to be responsible for those.
People have already forgotten 9/11, and Moussoui's trialis not getting the coverage it should have, the same with the flightrecorder transcripts. We don't have enough reminders, as if theAmerican people /need/ to be reminded.
I haven't. Where is Osama? Why are we harping about how good we're doing in Iraq (which I'm disinclined to believe 100%), when Osama's still at large? That man is responsible for THOUSANDS of deaths, to a variety of countries around the world (mainly the USA), and we're all "we got Saddam" and "Iran's cruising for a bruising." I'm sorry, but am I the only one who sees a problem with this?
I have no faith in the UnitedNations. They've failed the world on so many occasions.
We agreed to set up a world organization of nations, that would work at handling affairs and, I'm assuming, police nations that don't follow the rules (such as Iran enriching Uranium). Just because it was our idea, and done on our soil doesn't mean that we have the right to ignore them when it's inconvenient. I'm not huge in faith on them, either, but we have to follow our own rules, or we're really no better than the nations we claim to be attempting to help.
I hate warokay? I don't like it, and unfortunately it's always going to be on thetable as an option. There's always going to be some fuckhead who wantsthings their way and the only way to get them to back the hell down isthrough force.
If these people in the middle east want to keepkilling each other, just go on and let them. They've done this for howmany centuries? But when you start bringing in other countries, orthreatening states, not recognizing their right to exist, then we'vegot a problem. Face it, these guys hate the west with a passion. Thereare those Islamofascists in power who run over their own people, andstir up hatred and want to kill us because they don't like what westand for. We are filthy infidels who are not fit to walk on the sameplanet as them. I believe that even if we weren't in Iraq andAfghanistan, this would be happening anyway. Maybe not now, but it wascoming.
Bah, I don't feel like discussing, so I'm shutting off comments. No offense to anyone.
I despise war. I think there are a million, trillion things that can be done first. I agree that, at times, war is inevitable. However, we're in no position to start ANOTHER war on ANOTHER front, nor do I think we should, morally. We love our way of life, and for some reason, we feel the need to make everyone act the same. It's that attitude that has us so despised. There's no respect from us for anyone else's way of life, so why should they respect ours?
If Iran started a war tomorrow, I would be in total agreement that we need to step up and give 'em what for. Yet, Iraq's a mess (and it is.. it's worse than some say, nor is it as bad as the others say, but it's a fucking mess anyway). Let's clean up one fuckup before we (erroneously) go tromping into another.
And, just so that people only curse me out for this, I'm screening replies. I love ya all, but this is one thing I'm hot about, too.
