Get this..

I went to work yesterday, and learned that the UScan operator due in at noon had been fired the day before. So, I'm without a UScan operator, since they'd decided to let me replace the shifts. I ran behind, because it was a "I can't care" kind of day. (I must point out that it's *CAN'T* care, not don't care.) Soon after I went to Guest Care, I got a phone call: The guest care clerk who was supposed to relieve me for lunch wasn't coming in, either.

Well, shit. Oh well, I'll use the supervisor to cover my lunch, and just finagle something for the rest of the day. Then, the phone rang. Huh? Oh.

As Morton says, "When it rains, it pours." Sure enough, shortly after Guest Care called in, so did the Supervisor. So, I'm without my relief for Guest Care, UScan, AND Supervisor. Now, some of you who know me in real life, as well as those who've known me a long time know what's coming next. But you're wrong.

I did the most unexpected thing, for me at least. I did *NOT* lose my cool. I did *NOT* stress out. I *DID* keep my manager informed of what was going on. I *DID* attempt to replace the shifts as best as I was able. Now, it wasn't slow, because this was the Friday before Memorial Day, so we were keeping very busy. I assigned the ranking cashier the job of helping me keep up with breaks, and I kept things flowing. I got the afternoon guest care clerk to come in at 1pm, and he showed up at 1215pm instead, so I got lunch.

Over all, it was a hectic, full-on sucky day, but I handled it beautifully. I don't know for sure that it was my relaxed mental state because of vacation, or just a planetary alignment (not likely right now). I was proud of how well I handled things yesterday. *shrug* I am.

Now, this morning(afternoon), I'm just goofing off, playing with my iTunes library. See, I have a ton of music on my computer, but I can't dump it all into iTunes, because it tries to update it all to my iPod, and well, simple math tells you that a 30GB library > a 20GB iPod. :) I suppose I could attempt to work something out using the "checkmark" thing that each song has, since the iPod can be told to ignore those songs not checked.

Anyway, I know that some folks have been doing some kind of song meme, where you list your favorite songs, or something like it. Well, I'm going to list my favorites. These songs are those that ALWAYS affect me when I hear 'em. I may have done something similar to this, but this list supersedes anything else. :)

3 Doors Down - Kryptonite
Alanis Morissette - Ironic
Arlo Guthrie - The City of New Orleans
Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the Reaper
Eve6 - Promise (Uncensored or Censored)
The Grateful Dead - Touch of Grey
Green Day - Time of Your Life (Good Riddance)
Green Day - Basket Case
Helloween - Future World
Jimmy Buffett - Margaritaville (And I'm about ready for another one, too.. Time to go out, I think. :))
Nightwish - Ghost Love Score
Poison - Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Queensrÿche - Anybody Listening?
Queensrÿche - Eyes of a Stranger
Queensrÿche - Suite Sister Mary
Queensrÿche - Another Rainy Night (Without You)
Savatage - Believe
Savatage - One Child
Sonata Arctica - Unopened
Sonata Arctica - Weballergy
Sonata Arctica - Tallulah
Sonata Arctica - Wolf & Raven
Sonata Arctica - The End of This Chapter
Sonata Arctica - Don't Say a Word
Stratovarius - Eagleheart
Ugly Kid Joe - Cat's in the Cradle (Yes, I know it's a cover, but for some reason, I prefer theirs to both Chapin and Taylor.)
Warrant - Heaven

That's a heck of a list, eh? Well.. Each of these songs hit me in such a way that my adrenaline gets pumping, or I get misty-eyed, or I begin singing along, unworried about who may hear. It's really special music, if it can do that. In my opinion, anyway. :)

Be good, folks.
