So, I slept until noon today. I didn't get to sleep until late, so cut me some slack! :)
I goofed around online, and spent a while reading about some gaming books on ENWorld. My, there are some downright nifty d20 books out now. So, I decided I would pick up The Complete Guide to Fey, because fey (Seelie and Unseelie) are fun to read about. I decided I'd see what the deal is with Castles & Crusades, which I've seen described as "d20 Lite". Very interesting, to say the least.
A shower and road trip later, I was standing in Comics 'n' Collectibles, looking at their RPG stuff. I found West End Games' d6 Fantasy, and almost got that. I found the Castles & Crusades Player's Handbook, as well as a module, too. I looked around more. Heck, I spent about an hour and a half in the store, browsing the titles. I saw GURPS 4th Edition, which I would have gotten, but they were missing the player's book. I saw a lot of stuff that suddenly looked interesting from the POV of someone running a game.
I didn't see Green Ronin Publishing's Advanced Player's Manual, though I did see the Advanced Bestiary. Sword & Sorcery had their Advanced Player's Guide, with more alternate rules, too, such as skill-based spellcasting, alternate epic level progression, and critical fumbles and successes. I browsed everything in the store's RPG section, even looking at BESM d20, Shadowrun's Shadows of Europe, and even thinking (briefly) about another WoD sourcebook.
I finally left with the Castles & Crusades Player's Handbook, the C&C module, a module for the players in my Eberron game, the Advanced Bestiary, and the Advanced Player's Guide. I got gas, and realized I couldn't make it home before i had to be at Charles'. So I headed towards Comic Cellar.
I never made it.
I was going down Wales Avenue, and saw my buddy Bizz mowing his yard. Now, I haven't seen Biz in nearly two years, so we caught up a bit. His wife came home, and we all talked for a few. It was decided that they would show up for the Episode III screening at MuviCo, and we have begun planning for a Labor Day barbecue. (It's the only way we imagine that we can get everyone to show up for it. Many of our friends use that "I have plans" thing to bow out at the very last minute. Four months' advance notice should be sufficient to reserve the day.
I then went to Charles', and told him about Castles & Crusades. Charles loved it. HE likes the idea of playing where the rules take a backseat to having fun. His wife came home, and we went to Applebee's on Union. (Which, local people, is OPEN.) Afterward, we watched some Star Trek: TNG at his house, and I finally came home.
I work 8a-5p tomorrow, and I'm tired. On Wednesday, I work 6a-3p. I dunno if I'll make it to the game tomorrow night, but that's how things work for me. Let's hope so, eh?
