Well, today has been a rather crappy day, and then some.
I left for work, and my car is belching burnt oil smoke pretty bad, a little worse than normal. I get my End of Day stuff done in a timely manner, but that's when the 6am checker decided that she didn't have to be in until 630am instead of 600am. By this time, my head has begun to hurt. Unfortunately, it's not a vivid pain, but a dull ache all over my entire skull.
Going upstairs, I ran into some problems doing the Time and Attendance paperwork. When the co-manager arrived, he set me up on Kronos, our new timeclock system. He also decided to register two-thirds of the people who were supposed to be on the front (granted, this means two people, but you'll see in a second). Armored car arrived, and I had to nearly run to keep him from leaving without picking up, since I'd taken so long to get downstairs. (Why did no one page me? Probably because I was left with the dregs of our schedule, on EVERY SINGLE post.)
I walked out of accounting after handling armored car, only to see our only checker with a line that was at least 5-6 deep. U-Scan was full, and no one was watching it. As I walked past U-Scan, someone caught my attention, and I turned and fixed their problem. Then, because time was ticking and I was not getting any farther along, I paged the two employees he had pulled back there to register. The process takes moments, but it can take a while. I figured he'd get one of them done first, and send them on. What happened? I had long lines and no one to bring it down. I helped a couple of people through U-Scan, and was summarily thanked.
Finally, the U-Scan clerk and the Guest Care clerk come back to the front, like we weren't busy. I put U-Scan on a regular till, and watched U-Scan until the rush died down. (We'd probably have never had a rush if he hadn't pulled BOTH of those people. Ironically, I could have sworn I heard him page the Guest Care clerk, and tell him to come to the time clock if he's not busy, or send the Uscan clerk instead. Not both. Grrr.)
I finally got our Time and Attendance done around 10am, an hour later than usual. I got started on the Zone reports, and remembered, to my chagrin, that I had to erase last year's data and prep the sheet from scratch. (I usually do this for the following week when I finish the reports, but I didn't get a chance last week.) Factor in being called to Uscan (they couldn't manage everything and get breaks out) and my headache kicking in high gear, and you have a recipe that has me staying until 1230pm.
And that's what I did. When I left, my car smoked even more than in the morning, and smoked longer on the highway. *sigh* I just paid this thing off, but I'm afraid it's about to die. I don't have the money to get it fixed right now, and I don't want to/don't know if I can get a new car. Oh yes, the thought has crossed my mind as an option. In fact, I thought about the possibility of going to Saturn of Memphis tomorrow, and browsing their Used Car lot, just to see.
When I got home, I grabbed a couple of sandwiches and some tea, and tuned in the Titans-Colts game on NFL.com. Tennessee was winnning!! My headache got worse, and I laid down to get rid of it (notice I didn't say anything about taking some headache medicine). An hour and a half later, and a dream that had me best buddies with Arnold Schwarzenegger, I woke up with my head feeling WORSE than before I slept. Also, it was the 4th quarter of the game. Sure enough, Tennessee choked in the last quarter, and allowed 21 unanswered points in that quarter alone.
Grr. I really, really hate the Colts, and it seems that they do this to the Titans whenever they meet. It's like the Colts are the bullies, and the Titans get nervous at the thought of beating them, and panic in the last quarter. *sigh* I still love the Titans, but I would love to see them top the Colts. I hate looking UNDER Indianapolis in the standings.
