Work was average, though I got to talk to Scott for a little while when I first got there. I managed okay, though I felt kinda stressed for the first part. We wound up shorter, but I never had a chance to figure it out, since I had to run Guest Care until I left. *sigh* That's life, though.

I came home, and Scott called me again. We got to talking about things, including Stephen's offer to pick up the original campaign with Aric and Aza on Sundays if it collapses. Then, Scott mentioned that he wished he could get online. I asked him what was it doing. Yes, you fellow Stream people, the dude actually said, "Nothing. That's just it."

Well, I found out he was running Win98SE, so I fell into phone tech mode. (This guy has been without an Internet connection for nearly 18 months. I HAD to help him. So, after about forty minutes, and an argument that culminated in me declaring at the top of my voice, "I'm not sentient!!", we got him back in the world of teh Intarnet. :) I feel good about it, too. :) Now, we can probably get things going again in [livejournal.com profile] janusarwyth or [livejournal.com profile] darvin_evenwood. (That is, if he gets around to adding them!!)

I've got other things I could be doing, so I will probably take some time to do so. Talk to you guys later!!

Well, apparently Scott's not back online after all. I don't know WHAT is going on, since NOTHING was done to his stepdad's computer, but his stepdad can't get oniline now. Now, removing and installing TCP/IP, along with removing all unnecessary NICs, shouldn't do anything to the network, right? Would moving the network cable from one port to another do it? I mean, am I missing something?

It's not that Scott's computer was set to do anything aside from obtain an IP automatically. He's connected to the router. What could be the issue if he pulled a 24.x.x.x IP address, even through the network? It was a LinkSys Wireless-G router. Looking at the manual online, there's nothing that we did that wasn't in the manual already for setting up the computer on the router. His stepdad was running wireless. *Sigh* I just don't know, and it bugs me. I feel responsible, even though the worst Scott did to anything outside of his own computer was move that cable.

How the fuck could that be it? Can ANYONE explain?

EDIT: It was the WINS Configuration tab. The one stupid thing I didn't remember 100% was that tab. I think I had him check the wrong one. (I knew it wasn't Enable WINS, but I wasn't sure whether it was Disable WINS or Use DHCP..) Sad, though, that a setting on one computer could keep the other off, even when the first computer got shut down, isn't it?
