tek2way: (Music - Beast with Two Backs)
Well, I guess I'l agree that they do, at least today. I got to sleep on a real bed last night. Charles and Melissa insisted that I sleep on their bed while I was gone, and provided clean sheets for me to use on it. It's a pillow-top king size bed. Mmm.. It WAS relaxing, though I must admit that I woke several times, and I took a longer than normal amount of time to wake fully up. I wonder if that's because of the quality of the bed?

So, I have nothing that I have to do today. I'm about 75% of the way through Knighthood of the Dragon, by Chris Bunch. Remember when I read Storm of Wings a few months ago? Yeah? This is the sequel. I think that I'm going to start a load of laundry, do the dishes (what few HAVE been dirtied), take a bath, and then reassess my situation. I imagine that I might see about picking up that d20 Future book I talked about last night.

Scott is supposed to come over later, though he has to replace a belt on his car before he does. Another friend is supposed to help him. I wonder how well they're going to work, considering that Scott went out last night for drunken karaoke? :)

I'll update again during the day, maybe.

Well, after this morning's post, I went back to bed, and read for about half an hour. Then, I slept for another hour. I was tired. Of course, I'm still tired, so I wonder how restful that bed really is. Of course, it doesn't help that the cat is in heat, and VERY vocal and VERY intrusive about it. She'll follow you, and get under your feet, all while yowling like she's been kicked. It's really annoying.

Anyway, I got back up, did some laundry, and that's when Scott called. He was hungover, as expected, but he had fixed the car last night. Wise move, in my estimation. We hung out for a bit. I picked up some things that I used that weren't on the "approved" grocery list, such as Melissa's Sno-Caps and the Texas Garlic Toast. Scott cashed his check, and I decided to go to Comic Cellar to see if they had d20 Future. Alas, they did not.

However, they did have the new World of Darkness rulebook, and Vampire: The Requiem. We flipped through them, and wound up each getting both. I know I've come down hard on Vampire in the past, but this one feels different. There are five clans, and several covenants which further align your character. There is a section deeper on the book on "other" bloodlines, and it's here that you can find the Bruja, Malkavian, and Toreador. I don't know any else, because Scott asked me not to read about the clans and bloodlines. (He's planning on running a Vampire Chronicle using the adventure that's in the free brochure that was on the display, too.)

I proceeded to read the World of Darkness book, since that includes the rules on making characters. Yes folks, Scott's wet dream has come true. Vampires, Werewolves, and Sorcerors are templates that you apply to a mortal character. I do like this approach, since it will let me, er, someone use the WoD setting to run a Call of Cthulhu game. (Ever wondered exactly how quickly your Wits can be dropped? Hehehehe..) However, the default method involves picking your faction (clan, tribe, traditioin) and applying the template DURING character creation. You don't HAVE to play a mortal, but I think it could be a lot of fun to be Embraced, or have that First Change, after you already thought you knew how things were. Ya know?

I have to get up for work in about six hours. Unfortunately, I only just realized this, and my dinner is still cooking. So, I'll just have to take a nap when I get home from work tomorrow. No matter, though. Melissa and Charles should be home around 5 or 6, I assume.

*looks around* The house is feeling emptier now.. Must be that damn book. I'm gonna blame the fact that the first 30 pages were stories and tidbits that conveyed the feel of the setting, rather than launching into the mechanics. I like Complete Warrior, Complete Divine, d20 Future, and even Eberron, but all of these books could learn a little something. (I will say that Eberron probably doesn't, since after the introduction, it gives you the option of turning to the story section, but I'd have loved if it took this approach of "throwing you into the deep end of the pool" to the setting.

Now, I'm gonna have dinner, and hope to get enough shut-eye before I HAVE to get up for work. Ick.

Scott, on the phone: "If Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon, who photographed him climbing down the ladder?"

My answer implied that the footage we see is Buzz Aldrin, and they just attach the Armstrong soundbite to make it look good. Still, I cannot find ANYTHING online that explains this, aside from the "Moon Landing is a hoax" sites, which I consider to be excrement.

Not even Phil Plait, the Bad Astronomer, mentions it. Perhaps I'll join their forums, and ask there. Until then, I'll let you guys debate it.
