..or at least tales of someone who wasted a day. :)
I was up LATE over at Charles' & Melissa's place, playing D&D. Scott's running now, for better or worse, so I have a chance to unwind and play a character. People really do have characters they prefer to play, because I fell into the role of one of my favorite archetypes: archer. I made Finn Anwyn, aka Spike*, and archer from the Silver Marches. He's somewhat cocky, loves money, and is very self-oriented. Despite that, though, he's got a good heart, will help those in need, and follows the teachings of Seluné.
Regardless of all else, though, he's an archer. Last night, a wizard involved with an attack on our group withdrew from combat, and ran away. Scott said the guy was running. Spike stepped up, nocked an arrow, and fired. He missed. The guy got farther away. Spike repeated his actions. Still missed. By now, the guy was nearly 400 feet away. A fireball wouldn't have hit him by now. I was down to only a +1 on the attack roll, despite having weapon focus and an 18 Dex. I rolled a 20. He was dead. Yes, I was rather obsessed about it, but I saw no reason to let the guy get away, and I'll be honest, Scott was too insistent on letting the guy get away. He even called for a spot check. I told hiim "If you don't want me to kill him, fine. Say it. Don't hide it behind a Spot check."
I admit that I was obsessed with it, which was kinda scary. I'd have been okay with the guy getting cover from trees or something. But to call for a Spot check when I didn't have any trouble seeing him before bothered me. Still, I got good loot from him: Ring of Protection +1, Boots of Elvenkind, and a pretty belt worth 250gp. At the end of the adventure, an NPC gave one of us randomly a Cloak of Elvenkind. Guess who got it? Yeah, me. Needless to say, these items really are going to work for my character's benefit. I'm also going to share what I find after this, but I felt that I managed to kill that wizard, I deserved his gear.
Anyway, I came home, fell asleep around 3am, and slept off and on until 3pm (though it was more off than on from 8-12, since I was reading Nightfall). I checked my mail, found two new issues of my subscription to National Geographic, and my Limited Edition Digipak version of Nightwish's Nemo single. I love eBay, and the user madxam is the best. If you're looking for good heavy metal from across the pond, look to him. He ships fast, prices fair, and is very friendly.
I chatted with
andric about Harry Potter, HP candy, HP wands, politics, and where we're meeting tomorrow. It was fun, and I'm excited about seeing it tomorrow. Tomorrow night, I'm meeting everyone over at Brad's for the game around 6pm or so. I've read an adventure for this, but it's one from way back, so I hope I remember it enough to run it. Who knows? The group might be all new. (Everyone was talking about changing characters in some capacity last week.)
Well, I better crash. Good night, all.
* - Spike, as in a synonym for Arrow, not a reference to the vampire from Buffy, though I liked that character.
