...and I couldn't be happier about it.

My day started off great. I got to work just a little late, but got done way ahead of schedule. I went on upstairs, and got the ring errors done, and was about to finish the spreadsheet to send to the addresses when the power went out. Now, I mean, all of it. Our backup generators didn't work for some unfathomable reason. Let me tell you, when you're in a room with no windows and the lights go out, it is black. Not dark, but black. I couldn't make out any shapes. What made that scary was my proximity to the stairs when the lights went out. I wasn't sure which way to walk that would keep me from plummeting down the 15 steps to the landing below. The lights flickered, and I stepped in the direction I saw that was safe.

The co-manager, with whom I had been talking, grabbed a flashlight, and we headed downstairs. That's when I learned that the power was out completely. We ran everyone out, since we couldn't ring anyone up, and began putting up reshop until the lights came back on. We finished the reshop after an hour or so. I was pulled to cover the frozen food and dairy cases with meat case liners, to try to keep the cold in somewhat. Finally, we all were sitting at the register closest to the doors, and listened to our co-manager's stories about California from when he went out there on strike duty. (One of the companies that was on the receiving end of the strike in Southern California was a Kroger affiliate.)

Just as he finished a story, the lights came back up. I rebooted the registers, and ran back upstairs to get payroll done. An hour later, I had finished payroll, uploaded it, filled out our cash shortage sheet (we are in money trouble, so we have to turn in a report weekly that explains what is going on with our money), and had it faxed. I let Glen out for lunch, and things went okay, even if my head was hurting.

Glen got back when he should have, but he was far too unconcerned about the hordes of people inside the store. In fact, when I told him to find a customer and run them through U-Scan, he began to take some charcoal to put it up. I took it from him, and told him to look for someone. Sure enough, Glen's respose was, "I'm not going to beg them to come down here." Wow, gee thanks, Glen.

I left after getting half an hour of overtime, and swung by Kevin's Attic, since I had a $20 gift card because of a full loyalty card. I picked up Player's Guide to Faerûn. While there, I was informed that they had opened some packs of Archfiends D&D miniatures, and had set the rares in the display case. There, you could choose what your rare would be, and it'd only cost you an additional $2. I left with a Large Silver Dragon and Drizzt Do'Urden.

I picked Scott up, and we went to the game at Brad's. It was fun, even if poor planning on our part got us all killed . We talked about a potential game, about which I'm going to post in [livejournal.com profile] darvin_evenwood. I dropped Scott off, and came home.

Now, I have some weighty thoughts to ponder, but it'll have to wait for tomorrow. Right now, I'm falling asleep at the keyboard.
