I was supposed to do some work for my job today. I was to type up a rules packet about the various checker and bagger duties. Instead, I spent my evening cleaning my room (because my fragile sense of order got the best of me), and then fighting with Money 2002.

I don't understand the fight with Money 2002, though. It worked fine for a long time, then, one day late last week, it wouldn't run. I didn't get an error. I'd double-click the icon, the hourglass would appear, and then it'd go away. Task manager would show that it WAS loading into memory, but then going away. I've no idea why it was doing this, aside from my OS. My current copy of Windows XP is technically a corporate beta. It's been over a month since I installed, and I bet my OS is getting ready to die on me. EDIT: I want to point out that today marks the third time in 5 days that I've reinstalled that bloody Money program. Each time, I have to uninstall it. I can't just do a reinstall over the old.

So, I have done what I've never done before: I purchased my first real OS. Granted, I have a copy of Windows 98SE (OEM) from a friend who already had it when he got new hardware in, but I think that OS is a LITTLE outdated. To that end, I went to eBay, and looked around. I found a copy of Windows XP Home (Full) w/SP1a for $83. After shipping, it's run me around $100. I didn't really want to spend that, but I can't have my computer spontaneously screwing things up, and I don't want to go back to Windows 2000 Pro. As nice as it is, it *IS* still four years old, and XP looks and feels better.

I know some of you would advocate a Linux system as an alternative. I'd be with you, but for the fact that I *LIKE* using Money 2002, Outlook, and Excel. The lack of a Linux version (not comparable application, but an actual MS release) keeps me from doing so. *shrug*

Today was not particularly interesting, except when I was letting Jennifer out for her break from Guest Care. I had a customer come up, and buy 5 lottery tickets, only because she hadn't yet. She joked that she would split the pot with me if she won a million dollars. Well, in the five tickets, she got $2 back. (Yeah, lame.) She was so amused by the games, and I was (apparently) so nice, she actually gave me a dollar of her winnings.

Now, I'm going to attempt to get some work done on that packet, so my manager won't hang me from the sign outside the store. :) get some sleep. I'm tired.
