Okay, I admit that I used that title because if I had said "D&D and Magic stuff" no one would have read it. :) Sorry.
I picked Mike up yesterday on the way to Scott's. It seemed like a good idea, since he'd help us meet our quorum. But first, let me backtrack.
I finished yesterday's post, and got the bright idea to call Mike. I called him, and explained the situation. (Rick was probably out, Stephen was a no-call, and Brad was running late.) He asked me if we were going to play. It sounded like he didn't want to be bothered if we weren't. I told him that we probably would, at least a little. I asked if he wanted to go. He agreed, and we hung up.
On the way there, though, I was seriously bothered by that. I like hanging out on Sundays, since it's my chance to spend time with my friends. Even if there was to be no game, as long as we didn't have things to do, I wouldn't mind still getting together. This led my thinking to that of "I want to play a game, too". I started thinking about how much fun it would be to play Aric. (I don't know how long he will live, but he's going to be a lot of fun to play. Don't worry, he's not a jerk. He's noble, but not of noble-blood.)
By the time I picked up Mike, I had talked out most of my problems, so I felt better. We got to Scott's, and just hung out for a little while. Mike started playing "Symphony of the Night" on PSX, Alex and Aron went through Magic cards, and I went to watch Scott play the Sims. That game is messed up, but looks like a lot of fun. I'll have to pick that up sometime.
Shortly, though, Brad showed up, which was a surprise to me since I wasn't expecting him until later than 5pm. (It couldn't have been worse than 4pm.) We settled down, and began to play. Sort of.
I felt a little on the distracted side, since I hadn't done any prep work, and I think it carried over to the players. I had settled on a scenario, though, and we began moving toward that. It was a lot of fun, until the unforeseeable occurred: Mike realized that Kheadrin was finished adventuring. Kheadrin had a job, a decent amount of wealth to fall back on, a place to stay, food to eat, and women to.. well.. ahem. Anyway, I asked Mike if he'd like to start a new character. He began to think long and hard about it. The rest of the group found out about what I had planned, and began thinking about how to implement it.
At this point Brad was so hungry he could have eaten steel. He and Aron went to get Taco Bell. The rest of us just sat around and talked. Kheadrin quit the job of bouncer for the Bright Blade Brandished, went into business with his weaponsmith contact, and joined the university to learn how to enchant weapons. It was here that we stopped for the night. I didn't want to begin the module, since I was unprepared for it, and half the group wasn't there. (When the group is at full strength, though, they still won't work together. I am going to have a bunch of fun with this one. *smile*)
After that, Mike began playing SotN again, Scott went back to the Sims, and Aron watched Brad, Alex and me play some Magic games. After a while, Mike quit SotN, and watched us play using Vanguards. That was fun. Until Alex fireballed me out of the game. That was the last time Alex won a game that night. I just hate direct damage (fireballs, disintegrates) ending the game. Earthquakes and Hurricanes are fine, since everyone takes the damage. *shrug* It's something I've got to work on.
We wrapped things up at 11pm. I came home, and sat in a daze in front of the computer until I managed to get myself to go to bed. I woke around 9am, and felt rested.
Today's assignment: Do laundry, work on the adventure for next Sunday, and finish tweaking that Thallid/Bounce deck idea I've got going.
