Yesterday went quite well. My trip to see my aunt and help her was interesting, at least. ;) I set her up with Winamp, de-XP'd her OS, and showed her how much fun Homestarrunner.com can be. I also showed her a page where she could download Dog wallpapers. Other than that, though, nothing was accomplished. I told her to keep a list for the next visit, so I have a direction. :)
I left there, and went to Rick's for some Magic. On the way, a train was blocking Southern. So, I made a right turn, planning on heading down, and hitting McLean, and swinging back up. Nope. I found myself on South Parkway at McLemore. My defense mechanism was working full blast: I was scowling like I wanted to kill someone. I would like to think I was left alone because of this, but in reality, I probably looked too poor. At any rate, I found myself back at Lamar, and from there I got to Rick's safely. Ironic note: The train was still blocking the intersection, so I SAVED time by not waiting. (How often can you claim that?)
Aron wasn't there, so it was just Rick and me. This was awesome. We played some Magic, BS'd, talked about old times, BS'd some more, played more Magic, tuned a black deck for him, and talked and BS'd more. I left there around 9pm, and I can honestly say I haven't had that much fun in a damn long time. We're thinking about doing something like it every week, provided we can hook up.
Work today wasn't as bad as it has been lately. Perhaps I used up all of my bad days for a couple of weeks when I had my string of bad luck last week. *knocks on wood* I got in, and through a weird twist of fate, I heard my manager talking to someone around a corner. So, I was given the heads up that he was already there. Good. No newspaper for me. I got to work, and got through most of the close before he came back to check on things. He wasn't interested in hanging around, so I got back to work. That's when I remembered about Bush's speech last night. I knew the paper would have articles about it. Given the severity of what's happening, I bought a paper anyway. I'm not going into it on here. Suffice to say this: I support my government and our troops, regardless of how I may have felt prior to any conflict. (I was leery of war as a solution, envisioning this ballooning into WWIII.) I hope to see them all return home safely. And, in the immortal words of Forrest Gump: "That's all I'm going to say about that."
I trained Shauntay for Guest Care today. She's a pretty quick study, which is good. I grabbed a Chicken Philly from Lenny's for lunch, and got myself within 200 pages of finishing Dark is the Moon. I swear I don't know why it's taking me so long now. I am ENJOYING it again. Oh well, I think, unless I'm burning up with curiosity, that I'll read A Game of Thrones, by George R. .R. Martin next instead of the last book in the Irvine series. Of course, the last Irvine novel would follow that, but I need a break. :)
I let Shauntay out for lunch, and the manager called a department head meeting. That's when we had a Food Safety Inspection sprung on us. I paged the manager to let him know this, and what'd he tell me? ("Well, let them do their thing.") I was horrified. Not only was this against standard operating procedures, but he was snippish with me, as if I was bothering him with something trivial. As far as I knew, it WAS serious. Oh well, it's not my fault. He can learn the hard way.
I came home, and this is the highlight of my day. I walked in, and Aron brought forth a box I thought was lost to the mists of history. My red-headed stepchild of a card box, it was where I put my "other" game cards that weren't Magic. In this box, I have cards for Spellfire, Middle-Earth (Limited Edition), Star Wars (Premiere Edition), Pokemon (early sets), Doomtown, Highlander, and Netrunner. The diamond in the rough, such as it is, was the three Magic World Championship decks ('97, '98, '99), and the four decks from the Battle Royale Box Set. ( Cut for excessive levels of geek talk )
Interestingly enough, there was one more thing of interest in the box, and this is the gem: I still have ALL of my Vanguards from when I played in the Arena seasons. We can do the chaotic "team games with three Vanguards" games again. *pumps fist* Yes!
So, I now must go and catalog all of my "new" cards. I have things to work on, now.
River Boa, Spike Weaver,
