Not really, I'm afraid. I just sometimes forget what I'm going to say. :)

I woke up 6 minutes before the alarm went off. I decided to get the best of the alarm, though, and got up early. (Ha! Beat you, you silly time-keeping device!) At any rate, I managed to spend enough time reading LJ and commenting that I was ALMOST late. I clocked in at 600am. Whew. Was that close!*

I worked my butt off, jamming to the tunes of Nightwish's live CD, and got done mostly on time. I had *ONE* Uscan coin till that wasn't filled, but I had to open Guest Care. No loss, since we were dead. I just hung around in the back, and got it done, too.

I read a little more in A Clash of Kings, and realized that I *REALLY* like this world, and the characters that populate it. Absolutely brilliant reading. Thank goodness that I decided to see what the fuss was about. This is amazing work, even if he uses colorful metaphors and sex. I don't personally have a problem with those, but it could turn some people off of him. Frankly, I think that it's needed in the world he's built, because it means that people are acting like, well, people, and THAT is what the story is all about. People.

On my way home, I snagged Against the Shadow, for the Midnight campaign setting. This book is great. It adds more paths for the heroes to follow, gives more spells, and even offers some interesting prestige classes. I saw one thing, though, which bothers me slightly. The introduction to Against the Shadowindicated that your character is pretty much likely to die. I don't have a problem with that, per se, but, with what I'm reading in the Midnight Yahoo! group and the books, nothing you do will have any lasting effect. In short, nothing you do matters. I liked the idea of Evil winning, and being an overlord kind of power. That gave the characters something to strive for. However, unless I seriously twist the setting, the PCs will die in vain. There's nothing heroic about that. Hopeless fights are what we game to get away from..

Regardless, though, I heartily approve of Midnight, for daring to be such a non-standard product. Heroes, if given the chance, can REALLY shine. Oh well, I guess it goes along with the old saying, "It's better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness." If enough people light their candles, then perhaps something WILL happen. Right? I"ll just have to do a little more work than I expected. ;-)

* - I find it refreshing that I have reached the point where clocking in on time is "running late". I need to keep that up.
