Oh. My. God.
Celtic Woman is AMAZING. Live, they are light years ahead of what they have on CD, and their CDs are great. And did I mention that they're gorgeous, too? Every last one of them. :) The show started with "The Sky and the Dawn and the Sun", and seemed to hit every song that I have picked as favorites so far. I was a little worried, though, that they weren't going to do "Spanish Lady", but they saved that for their encore, and I was *so* happy when I realized that they were going to do it.
The fiddle player wore a dress similar to the gowns that the four main singers wore, but the skirt part was "shredded". I wondered about that, until I saw her play. She was ALL OVER THAT STAGE. I am in awe of her ability to keep playing while RUNNING at times. She was jumping, dancing, running, ducking... I don't honestly think she sat still at any point that she was on stage.
I recognized Orla (drop dead gorgeous) and Chloe (who is absolutely beautiful) immediately. The other two took me a while to figure out. The tall brunette was most likely Alex (very elegant and polished beauty), a new addition, and the other was -- gasp! --Hayley Westenra (who is too hawt for words) . EDIT: It appears that Hayley was NOT there tonight.. it makes sense, since I didn't see the features in her face that I am used to. It was an extraordinarily talented woman named Lynn Hilary. (Information obtained from Mairead Nesbitt's web site (the hot fiddle player, who was hot to boot).
My only "complaint" about the show was the lighting. Throughout the show, whoever was working on the spotlights couldn't seem to figure out who to target with the spotlight, and the extra lighting kept getting aimed at the audience (which wouldn't bother me, but twice they had a bright white light pointing at my part of the audience, and it didn't move). Otherwise, the show was fantastic. I finally got the gist of the story told within "At the Ceili" (that there's three singers' stories, not just two), and I got to hear Hayley positively cut loose on "The Voice".
That was money well spent. When they come again, I'm going to DEFINITELY go. That's the sort of show I don't want to miss if I can help it. During the intermission, I was shocked to learn that they came to Memphis *TWICE* last year. Both times, they came to the Orpheum, and it sold out. Oh, how I wish I could have seen them in that venue. THAT would be classy.
Anyway, I have work in the morning, so I better hit the hay (listening to Celtic Woman, of course!).
