So, today I finally went to the doctor about what has been bothering me for a while. Let me tell you, I have always disliked doctors. They make me nervous, and as I've said before, I get the feeling that they just want my money, and couldn't care less about whether I'm well or not. Thankfully, the other doctor in the office that C goes to is just as good as the doctor he uses. (The two of them share a practice, and his doctor isn't listed on my insurance's web site, though Dr. Thomas, who I saw, is.)

The guy has a great bedside manner. From the moment he came in, he was helping me get over my fear and reservations about doctors. While I won't say I was completely relaxed, I think I felt I could trust him, which I suppose is very important for one's general practitioner. He checked me out, found nothing immediate, but then I confessed a little more accurately what was bothering me, and a further search revealed the truth of the matter.

I have a hernia, below the belt. Dammit, this sucks, but I'll get a call from the doctor's office on Monday about an appointment to see a hernia surgeon to get this resolved. I've lived with this to a greater or lesser extent for years, but it was never anything serious before. It bothered me on some level mentally, but since it wasn't a physical pain, I kept convincing myself to put it off. A greater part of that also was my fear of what might be found, not to mention the trust required to let a complete stranger take a look at it.

I feel better mentally already, since I know this is going to continue until some kind of resolution is reached. I also feel better because I now have a doctor that I don't mind seeing. I mean, the guy said, "If it hurts, go to the emergency room. I'll use a Jedi Mind Trick on you if I have to. Ask yourself, 'Would Dr. Thomas want me to go to the emergency room?'" He then waved his hand in a very Obi-Wan Kenobi-like fashion. Geek doctor. Talk about a bonus. :)

I have work in the morning, and I've sworn to myself I will not let that place upset my stomach and aggravate my hernia anymore. I came up with a checklist of things I need to do in the morning, and ordered it by what seems most efficient. I'll refer to that list for a while to get the hang of things, and see if that doesn't improve my productivity. Then, I'll bring up the question of the fact that I'm a backup to the CSM at a store that has me qualifying for the differential in pay (not much, but 50 cents an hour would still cover my cell phone bill monthly).

In general, I'm feeling more optimistic again. I also got my hair cut. :) Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] rawee1, but the place you suggested was no longer there when I checked, but they had a SuperCuts, and given that I was beginning to feel really dang hungry and headachy, I went ahead and got it cut there. I'll do some research for the next cut, since I wanna check the place out, and want to find a place that will do it right.

At any rate, at least it's cut:

That's all for now. Good night, folks. :)
