Well, I spent most of the weekend working on my car, and it was not successful time spent. On Saturday evening, even using a four foot cheater bar, we could not break loose the crankshaft pulley bolt. Finally,
disker got in touch with an old friend of ours who had an impact wrench. :) We set up arrival at his place for Sunday around noon, where we would use the impact wrench and then finish breaking into timing belt cover, to replace the water pump and the timing belt (which was indeed broken).
I did do something I almost never do though. I called in for my 12a-8a Sunday shift. I got Tim to handle the payroll part, and I went home to sleep. I wasn't happy about calling in, but I decided that I couldn't handle working on my car all day Saturday, working all night, working on my car all day Sunday, and then working all night Sunday. My manager wasn't happy, but said that she understood, and acted like things were okay.
On Sunday morning.
disker and I went back to his mom's house, to finish getting my car ready for transport, and to wait on Tony to let us know he was up and could let us into his workshop. While we were waiting, but just before
disker was supposed to call him to find out if he was up, I got a phone call from my manager, who said that she'd unposted payroll, because something wasn't right, and she was calling to see if I could help her figure it out. (She even had the nerve to say, "You can charge an hour for this," when I have no way of accessing my own time.)
It took two phone calls, but finally she let me go, and we'd gotten no where. I honestly feel that she was calling me just to "remind" me that I should have been there, because 1) when she first called, she'd put the zone's liaison on hold to talk to me about things (the liaison would have been able to LOOK at what was wrong), and 2) at one point, she point blank said, "didn't I tell you that you can't take a Sunday off?" Understand, it wasn't in a tone of "I'm jumping your case", but there WAS an undercurrent of something there that indicated she wished I'd come in. For that matter, though, I wish I understood what happened with Tim's work on it.
We went over there with little problem, and got started. I was doing most of the physical work, and things progressed nicely. I got the old pump off, the new pump and belt on, and we tested it to make sure the car would crank. Then, it was simply a matter of getting the car put back together.
That was a problem. During the reassembly, I managed to skip a step, so I had to backtrack, and that was beginning to affect my mood, along with a lack of food, sleep and even drink (I couldn't believe I forgot to even DRINK yesterday). We finally got things back together, only to learn that something wasn't right. ;( Tony listened to it (and if you saw his shop, you'd understand that he knows cars), and said there was something we must have forgotten to tighten properly. It was narrowed down to the idler pulley being the most likely culprit.
As it was nearly 6pm at the time, we didn't crack back into it, though. His diagnosis seems correct though. The engine runs, but when it gets gas, the weird noise you hear when it idles goes away. When you take your foot off the gas, the engine dies. He actually thinks that we may not have gotten all of the slack out of the belt, which WOULD explain that problem. He's going to give me a call, and let me know what he works this week, and is going to help me tear back into it to fix things.
I worked last night, too, and I almost didn't make it. I was so worn out by the end of it, that I was nearly sobbing from exhaustion. I honestly think that even if I'd gotten my car running, I wouldn't have been able to safely drive home. My buddy
strieson, saintly roommate that he is, gave me a ride to and from work. Getting home, I had something to eat, and went to bed till around 1pm.
I'm up now, because I have to do a LITTLE laundry before I go into work tonight, and it seems that I'm sick now, too. (Stress + cold stone ground + no sleep + no food = Rx for sick.) I'm taking it easy, and I'm making sure I keep taking my vitamin. I'll probably nap again before work, too.
Take care, folks.
P.S. I want to take a moment to do a "/wave" to Deeveous, my in-game fishing buddy. She reads my journal, and I wanted to remind her she said she'd comment once. :)
