First: the further explanation I promised in yesterday's voice post.

Back on October 12, I mentioned that I figured that I should tell our new manager that I want off the front end, before she sees me as intrinsically part of it. She mentioned that there was a spot available on the night crew, and asked me to think about it a couple of days. Apparently, in the meantime, she learned that I'd originally expressed interest in the dairy manager position a few months back, but was turned down. On Sunday, the co-manager came in and apologized for not letting her know about my desire to get off the front end. I thought nothing more about it, since I figured that the main thing I was doing was tossing my hat into the ring, as it were.

Well, yesterday afternoon, the manager asked to talk to me, and asked if I still wanted the night crew spot. She also said that she didn't know that I'd expressed interest in the dairy manager position. She told me that the guy who's doing most of the work back there now couldn't handle it alone, with the holidays coming up, so the old dairy manager is going to run it for now (he's become an MIC). She'll make a decision in January about that position, and, if I'm still interested, that spot could be mine.

So, to sum it up, I'm going to be on the night crew from now on, starting in two weeks, at least till the end of the year. After that, I could find myself back on days as the dairy manager. Each position will result in more money, and it would add up enough to cover my cell phone bill for the month! :) Plus, as was my true intention, I'm expanding my skill set at work, making me more capable of handling things anywhere in the store, because I'll be able to place orders, check inventory, and understand the grocery ordering/stocking process better than I do now. In essence, it'll almost feel like a new job. :)

Now, on to today...

I woke up this morning, and for the first time in a week, I exercised. I was tired, and didn't REALLY want to, but I made myself, and I felt a lot better afterward. I did things slightly differently this time, though. I did my jumping jacks, then push ups, then sit-ups, and paced around my room for about 2 minutes. Then, I did 5 fewer jumping jacks, the same amount of push ups, and 5 fewer sit-ups, in a second set. By the time I was done, though, I was breathing heavily, and felt like I'd truly worked those muscles. Speaking of breathing, I paid attention to how I breathed during the exercises, and adjusted it to make more sense (and quit holding my breath). That seemed to help matters as well.

Afterward, I had some breakfast. I got a small bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats, and added a small banana to it. Perhaps it was that the cereal is basically corn flakes (which I loathe, because I don't like soggy cereal), or perhaps it was the banana, but I got to feeling kinda sick to my stomach after only half of the bowl. I'm honestly inclined to think it's the banana, since the last time I tried to eat a banana, I started feeling icky halfway through. Sad, too, because the taste doesn't bother me, and the texture is a non-issue when I have it in cereal. ;( Oh well, I have my apples, and I'm taking a Centrum daily to help with my vitamin intake. I'll have to try other fruits. I need to get some strawberries. I've tried those, and while they weren't what I thought they'd be (tangier, IIRC), they were still good. I'm going to learn to eat right, if it kills me! LOL!

So, today's a day off, and that means it's laundry day. I have all of my work clothes t wash, as well as some other things, too. In addition, I'm going to read some of my Negima manga (I'm on volume 6 of the currently released 15), read some of The Amber Spyglass ([livejournal.com profile] blondeheroine, I'm at the part where Dr. Malone found the new inhabitants of that world), or play a LITTLE World of Warcraft.

I confess. I logged in last night, and played quite a while. I respecced my druid to be full healing, and fought two bosses in Karazhan. I also plan to play a couple of my other characters, mainly a hunter or warlock, and a paladin. The differences this time, though, are:
  • I'm not going to let it monopolize my time. I like making dinners and eating real food over crap like pizza and TV dinners all the time, to say nothing of my exercise and new world view.
  • I'm going to remember it's a game, and treat it as such.
  • Social activity trumps WoW, every time. Last Saturday night's Hooters trip was because I refused, point blank, in staying home playing a video game over going out. (The game then was Guitar Hero II.)
  • I will not neglect LJ. Posting is a way of getting my feelings out, and my friends function as a support group in my quest to learn to eat healthier and exercise more.
I figure that I will get my hair cut tomorrow. I have no pressing appointments :), and I can do it on the way home. The day after, I'll go see my folks. That's the ticket.

Now, to get on with my day! :)
