Okay.. you don't know, but we tried yet again to run Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil. Sadly, I fully believe that module is cursed. Again, the game folded right after we got to the moathouse. So, we got to thinking, and decided to keep things simple, and eliminate all non-core rules material*. With that in mind, our group wound up choosing: rogue, wizard (illusionist), sorcerer, fighter, and cleric.

Contrary to how I wound up doing with Brotto (my dwarf cleric) in the game about five years back, I deicded that I really WOULD enjoy playing this one out. My issue, though, is that I began approaching it as an elven cleric of Ehlonna. I've since thought about that deity, her stance on issues, and how it'd work for my character. While it still is nice, I don't know that it's "for me."

While researching feats and spells in Complete Divine, I got to looking at the various deities it covered (many more than the few in the PHB). One deity that really seemed to reach out and grab me was Fharlanghn, the god of roads. Always on a journey we are, or some such thing. I'll admit that I thought it was really cool that his brother was Celestian, a travel god who wanders the stars (and astronomy is one of his domains, too!). Also, being an adventurer wouldn't conflict with the doctrine of the church (such as it is).

At any rate, I got to thinking, and it seems that a halfling cleric of Fharlanghn would almost be a better choice. Yes, in a way, I'm tapping into that "kender like to travel" thing. Or, a dwarven cleric of Fharlanghn. Perhaps a jolly sort of fellow, with a light step, who looks forward to each day's journey, wherever that may lead. Of course, an elf (or half-elf) cleric of Fharlanghn would not be a bad fit, strictly speaking.

To sum it up, Ehlonna is nice, but I don't know that I'd be able to comfortably come up with a way for my character to leave the woodlands that he watches. A deity who is all about travel, though, would certainly work for the adventuring cleric, who is always on the move. An elf, a dwarf, a halfling, or even a half-elf could work for that concept, since it's about travelling.

Well, I guess I'm going to sleep on it, since I wouldn't want to rush something that I wouldn't like.

In other news, I am getting my car back tomorrow, and it's drivable. The downside? Like a terminally ill patient, my car's time left on this planet is most likely measured in months, rather than years. The engine is showing too much wear and tear, and to repair/replace the engine will cost more than even that loan puts at my disposal. Oh well, this just means that I have some warning, and should begin saving for a "new" car, right? My Saturn has served me faithfully for 6 years so far, and covered well over 100K miles (from me alone!), so I'm going to miss it when it's gone. :(

* - We agreed that spells, feats, and equipment were exempt. Basically, the ruling was to keep the sun elf transmuter/dragon shaman/swashbucklers out, and things a bit more traditional in.
