Yesterday was
strieson's birthday, so today I took him out to eat to celebrate. (Is he really only 24?! Sheesh.)
We went to Hooters in Horn Lake, and had a wonderful meal involving chicken wings and beer. (At 230pm in the afternoon, no less! Of course, we didn't leave until a little after 4pm.) Our waitress was cute, and we talked about a bunch of things that probably should have been discussed long ago.
From there, I mailed a birthday package (nearly a month late) to
ladytygress, and we grabbed some Cokes while driving to Olive Branch. During it all, we jammed Green Day, Offspring, and Metallica. Good stuff, ya know. We also aired a lot more of the dirty laundry that's been hanging between us, in one form or another, for months now. It was quite therapeutic*. Hahahaha!!
I stopped at Best Buy, grabbed Offspring's "Ixnay on the Hombre" CD, and bought
strieson Mechwarrior 4, since he wasn't sure if he had Green Day's "Dookie" CD or not. (Something *I* would have known, since I *LOVE* that CD.) I drove to Summer Avenue, picked up some new boots from Payless Shoe Source, and then trekked to Comics 'n' Collectibles.
We browsed around for a while, and I nearly picked up Dreaming Cities: Tri-Stat Urban Fantasy Genre, an RPG about playing fantasy games in the modern age. I've said before how much I love that style of story, but I realized it would sit on my bookshelf, unused (even if I read it), so I chose to go with something I might be able to incorporate into the current campaign: Skull & Bones: Swashbuckling Horror in the Golden Age of Piracy. Let me tell ya, this is a neat book. Not only does it cover pirates, it actually touches on the real world ones, and includes maps of the Caribbean Sea and islands therein. That'd be a neat game for a short mini-campaign, especially with the Port Royal write-up that was done in a Dungeon/Dragon magazine about a year back.
Anyway, I work 6a-3p tomorrow, so I must get to sleep. Good night, folks, and happy birthday,
strieson!!!
* - I saw Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees on ESPN briefly on Monday while on lunch. He was talking about going to therapy. "Therapy is good for you. It's really therapeutic." WTF? Don't let sports figures talk, for heaven's sake!
