That's pretty much all I did today: geek out on Star Wars. I blame
andric for getting me started, because she was missing a part of the Episode III audiobook on mp3 (came down in alt.binaries.starwars). We got to talking about various things, and I remembered that the new Star Wars Insider has a list of the new action figures that are coming out this year. So, I suggested that we go to Barnes & Noble to pick up a copy of the magazine.
This, of course, led to discussion about the figures in general, so I took my collection* (140 figures) over to her place. We went to Barnes & Noble, where I snagged Star Wars Insider, Enertainment Weekly (slave girl Leia cover), The Ancient Legacy by Mitchell Graham, and The Greenstone Grail by Amanda Hemingway. I also grabbed another bookmark. This one is spiritual: "All the darkness in the world can not extinguish the light of a single candle." - St. Francis of Assisi. Perfect bookmark for my Bible.
We decided to try Wal-mart, and see if there was ANYTHING there to get. (For me, that meant ANY figures, not just broken-street-date Episode III figures.) We weren't inside for two minutes when we found M&Ms. And Skittles. And Pop-Tarts?! The promotions have begun. Dark chocolate peanut M&Ms rock my world. I never liked regular peanut M&Ms much, but the dark chocolate ones are awesome. Seeing the M&Ms guys dressed up like characters from Star Wars was funny, too. :) Of course, I had to pick up a bag each of M&Ms Jedi Mix (milk chocolate peanut), Darth Mix (dark chocolate peanut), Skittles (Hunt for Grievous game), and Pop-Tarts (Lava Berry Explosion - Darth Vader is on the cover, and it even tastes good instead of weird). No regular figures in the toy section, though we learned that Wal-Mart is going to have a TENT in front of the store this weekend for the new toys. Hell yeah.
I did find something I've been searching for, though: a Star Wars Unleashed Aayla Secura figure**!!! Have I ever mentioned how much I love twi'leks, especially blue ones that wield lightsabers? *big grin*
So, we were leaving, and I saw a car coming our way. We were almost to my car, so I didn't think anything of it. Until that car stopped. Oh, hell no. Those people were going to WAIT on us to pull out. We were two cars away from my car still, and they were still going to wait. I noticed immediately that they didn't give us any room to pull out, which also pisses me off about "campers", as I like to call them. So, how did I react? I took my sweet time. I carefully put my bags in the back seat. I sat in the car. I buckled my seat belt. I shut the door. I cranked the car, and then began searching for a good tune on my iPod.
andric mentioned the car, and I was amused to realize that I had truly forgotten they were there. I still had my song to figure out, so I kept searching.
That's when, to my utter amazement, the person in the other car SENT THEIR KID TO FIND OUT HOW LONG WE WERE GOING TO BE. What the fuck, people? Is a good parking space worth your child's safety? I may not be a monster, but who knows about other people? They didn't know me. I could have shot their kid in the face, run him over, or just spit on him. All for a fucking parking spot. As it was, we'd been getting ready for less than a minute. Sounds like someone needs to learn some patience.
andric told the kid that we would move as soon as we had room to do so, and he ran back to tell his parent (mom, I guess). I told her that it was good that she talked, because my response would have been, "Yeah, I plan on leaving....eventually." Thinking about it now, I wish we could have just gotten back out of my car, and gone back inside. Oh, that would have been SOOOO fun. Ah well, that's life.
We grabbed Arby's, and went back to her place. We watched Star Wars, and she burned me a copy of the Broadway performance of Wicked. I came home, stood my Aayla on my monitor, and realized that my "Star Wars trunk" is completely full of stuff. I must get a new storage device for anything else. Oh well, no big deal.
Now, while I've read the cliff notes version, I have to see if I can resist the lure of the full Episode III audiobook. (Yes, I'm weak. This is gonna be one kick-ass movie, and it's gonna leave an impression on folks.) It's a shame that the soundtrack isn't coming out until May 3. That sucks. I want a soundtrack, dang it. The Episode I and Episode II soundtracks aren't going to cut it for long.
* - With notable exceptions (Vintage Empire Strikes Back Yoda) my figures are opened, stood on my desk for a few months, and then sealed away in my "Star Wars trunk", where I have all of my Star Wars memoribilia.
** - 'Bout time, too. I have wanted this one for a long damn time, and had given up on getting it. Lucky day for me, it seems. :)
