tek2way: (RPG - Dungeon Master)
Yeah, I do. I don't know what exactly it is, but I feel frustrated enough to wanna scream, cuss, and throw things. Oddly, I'm not angry. :) It's just some kind of underlying feeling that showed up after I left work, and before I got home. Where did my day begin?

I woke up at the normal time, and got ready. As has been the case these last few mornings, I made coffee when I woke up. This had the effect today of causing me to run nearly ten minutes late. I didn't even go clock in. I just got the night checker out. Of course, she got overtime anyway. I'm going to hear about that. It's my responsibility to keep that from happening, and I've failed for the second time in a row this week.

I still managed to get my butt in gear afterward, though. I was done with everything, except ordering money for tomorrow, by 8am. I took a break, because I never get them, and I've realized that taking one in the morning actually helps me deal with the stress on the floor until I can go to lunch. After I got back, I loaded U-Scan and pulled the vending machines. This is only the second time I've done it since the end of January, and it's the second week in a row. I hate how things got to the point I couldn't do one of my jobs. Oh well.. It's behind me now. I think.

For lunch, I went to K-Mart, and bought a new watch. My old one broke yesterday when I returned from lunch. Let me say that I hate buying watches, yet I like knowing the time. I don't see ANY reason to pay $50-150 for something you keep on your arm, where it can EASILY get broken. So, I paid $10 for one, and you know what? It's perfect. It tells the time, day of the week, and has a stop watch. I use the stop watch to time my breaks and lunches. :)

After my visit to K-Mart, I had Lenny's for lunch. Their footlong hot dog is great, and cheap. While there, I read more of Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil, the module I'm going to be running when we return to the Silver Marches. I got to part two, and let me say: Part 2 is HUGE. When the overall map, if converted to the standard 1 inch = 5 feet rate, is approximately 42 feet by 42 feet, you know you're dealing with something truly massive. For kicks, I figured how much paper that would take to make photocopies of it all, and I came up with something in the neighborhood of 2800 sheets of 8.5x11 copier paper. At 10ยข a copy, assuming no mistakes, I'd be out around $280!!

Scary, huh? While that IS scary, it pales compared to what I've decided to do with the backstory of the module. Oh, the concept involves some vile stuff, but I'm about to make a twist on it that will truly revile, shock, and disgust my players. My only hint about what it could be is that my revision is one of my most disturbing LJ icons. :) Before that's set in stone, though, I'm going to make sure that it works. (*maniacal DM laughter*)

I almost got to leave an hour and half early, but Dana needed a stupid lunch. I tried to send her around a quarter till the hour, so she'd be back in time for me to do my count, and she piddled around until it was the top of the hour. Dumb blond bimbo. *flips her off* I wound up not leaving until 300pm anyway.

On my way out the door, I ran into the guy who was standing in the foyer, giving out free copies of the newspaper, in an effort to sell more subscriptions. Now, the paper pays him to do this. Anyway, he saw the module, and said, "I knew I knew you from somewhere." He mentioned the Kirby area, and I suggested Gamemasters. He took to this, and began talking. His name was familar, so I figured there was a chance that I might have seen or heard of him up there. Well, we talked a bit.* He got to a game idea he had. I'm not going to post the details about it here, but imagine if you took the cyberpunk genre, sci-fi, and time travel, and mashed it together with the Matrix? Yeah, sounds neat to me, too.

The thing is, though, that the guy ran at the mouth for nearly an hour about it. I couldn't even find a pause to tell him I had to leave, so I caught some of the worst traffic on the way home, and nearly fell asleep several times.  He had even wanted my name and number, so he could give me a call as a potential playtester the next time he needed to test anything. Thinking about that now, I realize that he was vague from the beginning, and probably stopped me only because he saw the D&D book in my hand, not because he recognized me. That annoys me, and I could be wrong, but it DOES make sense. Still, he seemed fairly nice, and his fiancee (who showed up halfway through) actually seemed willing to let me talk some, if he didn't start right back up.

I'm home now, and that's all that really matters. Something above is what was frustrating me, since I no longer feel that urge to scream bloody murder now. I'm going to read more of the module, and go to bed early tonight. I am beat.

[And, another debut: my official "DM" icon, using the cover art from the very uber-module I'll be running. The words are courtesy of Photoshop.]
