Another day dawns, another day the sun begins its travels across the sky. I woke up today at 10am, to the delightful barking of the dog next door; however, since I had slept enough, and I didn't have to get up later, I didn't get as angry as I did in that recent post. I got up, and immediately knew that I wasn't going to go to Kevin's today. We were supposed to look at my car, and see where I'm having trouble with my car's cooling system. Unfortunately, I realized that I work Sunday through Thursday, and I have to do all of my laundry today.

That reminds me... [Goes and hangs out first load]

Okay. Anyway, laundry and automotive repair aside, tonight is also a lunar eclipse. It's going to be really fun this time, since I have two telescopes, where before I had only a pair of binoculars that I was sharing with my mom. The fact that it's getting darker sooner also means that it will be good and properly dark when it begins I hope to get a good view of this one through one of the two telescopes. I think it will be interesting to see the shadow crossing the moon's face.

Well, I've started the second load of laundry, so I'm going to clean my room up. And really, it's mainly my desk. I have water bottles on it, and this morning's breakfast plate, and assorted things that should have been put in their proper places long ago.

In case anyone is interested in seeing pics of the wedding that I was in on Halloween, please check out the following links:

Just a quick note to say that I've finished David Gemmell's Ghost King, Book one of the Stones of Power series. The book, like the last book of his I read - Hero in the Shadows - was paced excellently, and very cinematic in the way it was paced. I had never heard of Gemmell before picking up that first book, but now I'm glad I did.

Ghost King is a fantasy novel based on the Arthurian legend. Oh, it's definitely fantasy, and not a "historical" accounting of the events surrounding Camelot, but the story he tells is one of my favorite versions of the legend ever. Imagine that the Atlanteans, left without a home after Atlantis sunk into the ocean, went their separate ways. With special magic stones, they have considerable power, and are immortal. As a reult, they have been gods, such as Ares, Athena, and Freya, acted as advisors to Arthur and Alexander the Great, and were responsible for the events that became known as the Trojan War.

Mix this into the tale of Uther Pendragon, and you have a very enjoyable book. At only 286 pages, it's not hard to finish quickly, either.

Final Score: 8.5

Next up: Last Sword of Power, book two in the Stones of Power series.

...are all I see. The day was PERFECTLY blue. I mean, I have never seen a day so clear. What happens when night falls and the lunar eclipse is supposed to begin? CLOUDS roll in. Damn it. I am supremely unhappy about that. Matters are not helped by the next door dog barking for over an hour straight. Oh well, perhaps he'll wear himself out after a couple of hours? Yeah, and monkeys may fly out of my butt. I think I'm going to hate work tomorrow.

In other astronomical news, the Leonid meteor showers are nearly upon us. The 19th will provide the highest concentration, with nearly 100 meteors an hour, some of them fireballs. That'll be neat. Especially seeing that many. I've seen more than a few since I began observing the stars back in August, but a meteor shower is something to see.

Oh well, it'll probably be cloudy the whole time then, too.

Before, and for two days after we all saw Matrix: Revolutions, Aron and Alex played Diablo II on our internal network. (Alex was staying over because of his car trouble.) By thursday night, my willpower crumbled like an old cookie, and I reinstalled Diablo II and Lord of Destruction.

The horrific part was trying to find my save files. The only ones I could find had them CONSIDERABLY older than when I last played. (Thundarr, my barbarian and very first character, was level 43 when last I played.) The latest version of him I could find was level 38. There is a SIGNIFICANT difference between them. Fortunately for me, I managed to find them, on a CD I wasn't expecting them to be on.

As a result, Thundarr is now Level 46, but having to earn his way through the Arcane Sanctuary on Nightmare. Fazel, my cohort, has this lovely freeze aura which makes the Ghoul Lords and Specters a little easier to fight, and, because of my careful weapon purchases, he deals a lot of damage, too. :)

On an unrelated note, I think I'm going to buy the extra icons from LJ. I have over 70 icons I've made for gits and shiggles, and some of them have never been used. Also, I am going to scale my layout to be more generic, since I realize I am already tiring of the Dragonlance theme. (Not dislike, just tiring. :) )
