Now, if there's a good question, that certainly is it.
For whatever reason, I had no interest whatsoever in updating my LJ. I deluded myself on Monday that I would. By Wednesday, it was clear to me that I wasn't particularly in the mood. Oh well, it happens to us all. I now have *three* session logs for
lordreaibn's Sunday Stahl Campaign. Let me say briefly, that these are some of the best roleplaying sessions I've ever had the joy of participating in. Stephen is many things, but one of them is the quintessential storylteller. He works best when he's thrown curve balls. But I digress..
Last week was just tedious workday after tedious workday. Given that this week's schedule is even tighter, I think it's going to be more of the same. Come on Saturday!!
Last Monday, I was able to pick up the Revised Dungeons & Dragons rulebooks. I paid full price for them, but I got them five days before official release. Of course, my usual FLGS had them the day that 3.5 was supposed to go on sale, and had them at 50% off cover! That's right, I paid $108 for mine (counting tax), when I could have waited a few days, and gotten them for over half off. Shit. I'm sorry, but shit. That'll teach me to go to the other LGS in my area.
They are good, though. I find myself leaning more and more in the direction of adopting the rules fully. The only exception is that paladin's mount. For some reason, they've turned the paladin's mount into a creature that is called daily, a la Pokemon. WTF?! Of course, after last night's session, I can actually see some use for that ability. Maybe I need to mull this over. After all, it doesn't matter if anyone else dislikes that ability, since *I* am the paladin.
I heard from
jartravian that Steve was a little cool on converting until he had the books, which I can completely understand. So, I suggested that we pick him up the Revised Player's Handbook. This, of course, was before I had heard about Comics 'n' Collectibles insane price reduction. I got to CnC, though, and saw them so cheap. I had at least a $15 commitment from other people to help pay for them, so I bit the bullet and bought all three for our DM. Stephen was definitely happy about it, but I never heard him say thank you. I'm honestly sure it was an oversight. (I didn't get them to hear him say it, but I'm sticky about thanking people who do things for me, and I tend to expect the same.)
Stephen isn't going to be there next week. He's on vacation in Florida. I hope he has a lot of fun. Interestingly, this gives him two weeks with the revised books to absorb what's necessary to switch the game over to Revised. In a way, I guess he kinda did thank us. When he left, he said that when he gets back, the game will be run using the Revised rules. I just hope he wants to switch, and isn't switching just because we bought him the books.
Last night's session was great. I haven't had so much fun in, well, a week. :) Seriously, though, I can't stop going on about this game. Heck, I even am taking notes during the game so that I can remember what happened (and write session logs when I get around to it).
*Looks up* Gee, I said I'd be brief. Oops. That really has been the highlight of my week, though. This morning, I woke up after getting at the bare minimum 8.5 hours of sleep. I immediately took a shower and dressed. I then cleaned the trash out of my car, bagged the past month and a half's comics (I've been letting that slip), and put awwy the issues that are more than three months old. (I tend to keep them out in groups of "storylines", so if I need to go back and reread an issue, I can.)
Later today, we have the Monday game. It's technically Star Wars, but I doubt Brad has anything for it. You see, last week, I kinda achieved a TPK, and I wasn't even running. I'll fill you in in another post. For now, I have to get some breakfast.
