Today was not particularly special. At all. *shrug* I guess it is bound to happen once in a while.
I got to work on time, but was called out by the morning checker so much that I *STILL* didn't get done when I am "supposed" to. The day went smoothly, though. It got a little hairy around noon, when I was going to go to lunch, but one of the checkers was having a fit about her lunch. Oh well, you go, even though I haven't had even a break since I got here, and you had a break two hours ago.
While on lunch, though, I did it. :) I finished reading George R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones. I also started A Clash of Kings, but that's not the point here. The former is. Let me tell you: Martin's "A Song of Fire and Ice" has got to be one of the absolute best fantasy series I've ever had the fortune to read. I loved the Dragonlance Chronicles, the Wheel of Time, the Lord of the Rings, the Chronicles of Narnia, Elizabeth Haydon's Rhapsody series, and the Shannara series, to name a few. A Game of Thrones strikes me as easily one of the most impressive first volumes of any multi-book series I've ever read. There's only one way to describe the world described therein: RICH. And I don't mean financially. The world is ALIVE. It's not just another fantasy world. You really do get the feeling that you're watching the events of another time unfold.

I found A Game of Thrones enjoyable, engaging, realistic, exciting, and fascinating. On my usual scale of 1 to 10, I would have to give it a 9, if not a 9.5.
After work, I swung by Comic Cellar and picked up my comics. Spurred by a delightful "Free Comic Book Day" issue of Ultimate X-Men #1, I snagged the first Trade Paperback. Needless to say, I am now hooked. I'm going to collect the trades until I'm caught up. It's a refreshing take on the X-men.
Goodnight, all.

- Now, I'm going to clean up my work area, take a shower, and read one of the following:
- A Clash of Kings, by George R. R. Martin
- The Complete Idiot's Guide to Astronomy, by Christopher De Pree, Ph.D, and Alan Axelrod, Ph.D.
- Midnight Campaign Setting, from Fantasy Flight Games
- The Hermit, an adventure by E. Gary Gygax
Goodnight, all.
