I love autumn. I love cooler temperatures and shorter days. I love the colors of the deciduous trees' leaves as they prepare to fall. I am particularly fond of those days on which you need a sweater, and you can just see your breath, but the sun is out, and everything feels CRISP.

What I hate, though, is getting to it.

As my fellow Memphians will attest, today's temperatures are lower than they have been in a while, perhaps since spring (not counting nightly lows, of course.. we're talking highs). It was JUST cool enough out to require a windbreaker. Ahh.. I loved it. I felt GREAT. I felt ALIVE. I was blasting my music, singing at the top of my voice, and driving like a madman. (Sorry.. I got high on autumn.) I went to a friend's house to work on his mom's computer. I found out that the fan inside the power supply was bad. We went and got another fan! I actually can do this! I was thrilled! We got back, I finished up, and Rick and I just started to hang out. (I've finally seen his daughter. Oh my, she's so adorable.) After a while, we had dinner, and I got ready to go. By this time, I was stifling sneezes. I was willing myself to not sneeze. As you mght have guessed, it didn't work. :) I double-checked her computer's fans, and everything seemed to be in order. As a thank you, his mom gave me some old board games that were in her closet taking up space:
  • Wizard's Quest, by Avalon Hill

  • Frank Herbert's Dune, also by Avalon Hill

  • Jumpit, a strategy game apparently brought over from Japan, and dated 1964)
  • And finally...
    • A complete (except for the board) Heroquest game!!!
For the uninitiated, I use the Heroquest miniatures in our D&D gaming sessions. It's cheaper than using 12-15 METAL miniatures when you want a lot of bad guys. Also, there are four different colors, so it's not as boring as unpirmied metal. I just finished sorting them, and I'm 1 short of having two full sets of minis. I can throw LOTS of enemies at them now. :)

Ahh, but I digress. You probably wanted to know what made me so bitter.. Well, after I left there, my nose went into overdrive. I now have a runny nose. I feel a headache coming on. Finally, I hope that I'm not actually coming down with a cold, and that it's just the weather change (always kills me) combined with all the dust from inside the computer.

Time will tell, huh?
