Will it never end?

I tell you, if work stays this stressful, I'm going to truly lose my mind. I took those days off to recuperate, but I don't feel any better than I did. Well, some perhaps, but not much, and certainly not enough. Today really tried my patience, ability, and skill. I think. During the day, I had to deal with one customer who wanted to know why she couldn't use her debit card to purchase a money order, and I dealt with a guy who was convinced that our guest care clerk shortchanged him, and that I was covering for her.* It also got rather busy by the middle of the day.

I'm also learning about a bunch of new things that we're going to have to handle in accounting, and I'm worried about being able to deal with them. Intellectually, I am aware that I will adapt and overcome, because that's how I am, but panicking and worrying beforehand is also how I am. Only time will tell, right?

I received a call from Charles tonight. It appears that he and his fiancee are going to Riviera Maya for their honeymoon. The place is bloody beautiful. Double jacuzzis, tv, room service, and just about everything covered in the package price. And it's got a great view of the ocean.

And the saddest part is that I was looking at how much sky was available (via the virtual web tour), and wishing I was going, simply to do some night-sky oberving. :) I mean, it's far enough south that you can see Alpha Centauri (after midnight, around 1am local time), and the sky is full of constellations that we of the continental US probably have never seen. *sigh*

At any rate, he wasn't just calling to rub it in my face. :) He asked me if I would house sit, and watch their pets, for them while they're gone. Interestingly enough, I was already going to be taking a vacation that week, so now I have somewhere I can stay that doesn't look like where I am now. (Which SHOULD mean that I can relax.) They have a stereo, tv, and dvd player, so I can take some movies. They also have a PS2, but I don't really play anything anymore. I suppose I could take my PSX games and cards, and play those to see if they really look better. All that quiet, too would mean that I could probably iron out some details for my campaign.

What I'd like to do is find something else to do while I'm there. Not really stay there the whole time, but get out occasionally, and have a different place to come back to than my house in Frayser. I'll admit I'd like to entertain someone over there, but I don't know anyone of the right gender. (Snuggling up to watch a movie with a dude doesn't sound like my idea of fun.) It'll be a lot of quiet time, to be sure, except when the pets want attention, but that's to be expected.

Well, I work 5a-1p tomorrow, and I don't feel stressed out about getting up, even though it's the same time as I have been. Perhaps it's because I'm not taking my dad to work. We have another game of the Valdar campaign tomorrow, too, which'll be fun. Ashe is one level of fighter away from taking Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Arrow, Handheld).**

Monday, I have to do a bunch of maintenance on my car, since its tags expire at the end of the month. I've been saving up for this, and my pessimistic mind has me thinking that I don't have enough, but I'll just have to wait and see. Good night, all.

* - Fuck him. I just wanted to say that. He had no cause to think like that.
** - It pays to have a lordreaibnDM who is an [livejournal.com profile] lotr_addict, and feels justified allowing it because Legolas could do it in the movies. Watch out for my "Mounted Combat (Oliphaunt)" feat next!

>>I had to deal with one customer who wanted to know why she couldn't use her debit card to purchase a money order

Why couldn't she? When I get money orders at the post office, they encourage me to use a debit card.

[identity profile] tek2way.livejournal.com 2004-01-11 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
She couldn't, because Western Union has not authorized us to take credit/debit cards for money orders or money transfers. It's that simple.

By way of comparison, if we were selling Kroger brand money orders, then we probably would be able to take debit cards.

[identity profile] jartravian.livejournal.com 2004-01-11 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
That's weird. I can understand not taking checks or credit cards, but not taking debit cards...hmph. Oh well, I don't use Western Union anyway.

[identity profile] tek2way.livejournal.com 2004-01-11 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you see, half the people will run that debit card using their PIN, and the other half will use as, you guessed it, a credit card. Not even getting into the appearance of being fair (signed debits vs. credit cards), if someone buys something and uses a signature to get it, weeks and even months later that person can say they never received the goods and services related to that charge, and the store will be charged back that amount.

I'm sure Western Union itself has policies and practices in place that allow them to take them. However, it's entirely possible - and likely - that they don't let licensed agents do so simply because those same policies and practices are not enforced across the entire Western Union affiliate program.

Housesitting, in a house worth sitting that is, is always a good way to get away, IMO. Have parties and rock out, I say.

I'll have to think very carefully about that, but it sounds like a right jolly idea. :)

Ashe is one level of fighter away from taking Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Arrow, Handheld)

Here's something.

From Dungeoncraft, Legends & Lairs, by Fantasy Flight games.
This is the 4th level ability from the "Prestige Class" The Hunter in the Deep.

Arrow Stab (Ex): *skips descriptive explanation*
The hunger may fight with an arrow or bolt as a melee weapon. Treat this as a normal melee attack with a Tiny weapon that deals 1d4 points of damage and has a x2 critical multiplierThe arrow or bolt's enhancement bonus, if any, applies to bothe attacks and damage. If the hunger accepts an A.o.O. from this target as if he had tried to use a ranged attack in melee, he can use misdirection to get the drop on his opponent. The hunger feignts firing an arrow but stabs forward with the projectile.... (there's stuff about "sniper damage bonus", other ability).

So. There ya go. Just for an idea of what it takes to get that as a class ability: Req's for the Hunter in the Deep.
BAB +5, Listen 8, Blind-Fight, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot.

So, I suppose you could make this a Feat as well. Make part of its req's be a certain level of bluff? (for the feinting)... My brain's too fuzzy to try to turn this into another game mechanic... but your post reminded me of this, and I was tickled to find it as an ability actually published in a widely-accepted line of works. ;)

Looks nice.. I'll have to see about that. Heck, I might have to get Dungeoncraft for that class. "Sniper bonnus damage"? Yeah, baby! :)

[identity profile] lordreaibn.livejournal.com 2004-01-12 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
dang straight. i will just put some oliphaunts into Caeln, and then you can have that feat! :D hahahah

[identity profile] tek2way.livejournal.com 2004-01-12 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
Hehehe.. Neat. I'm glad to see you're so willing to work with me, but I think that I'll pass on that feat this time. Thanks anyway. :)

hahahhhaah

its a good thing, too ;)
